Nicholas William Kandianis A parlous boy. Nick, our curly-headed, banana man must be very fond of our public library since he spends so much time there. If you wonder why Nick is generally tired, it's either his early hours with the Mello Ripe truck or his late hours on Main Street. Kandy is noted for his excellent excuses, and also for his itching powder. Football 2, 3, Track Team 3, Intramural Basketball 3, 4. Leon Warren Kenney, Jr. He is a waterfall of action and thought. Leon is a boy who goes around school all smiles. He likes a good time, and wherever he goes, he usually enjoys himself. He should know how to make popcorn, for he has worked at the Clover Hill Stands during the summer as popcorn boy. Tauno Knuuttila Hence, loathed melancholy. Tauno is a quiet boy. His favorite sports are football, hockey, and baseball, but especially fishing. Tauno is yet undecided as to what he would like to do after graduation. Nicholas Kyriacos Kopsiaftis And what he greatly thought, he really dared. Jitterbug Nick! We nominate him as our best shagger. He and Spyl Nikitas seem to be the best of pals. Naturally the best part of school life to Nick is the social life. Nick has a grin for everybody. History Club, Science Club 2, Intramural Basketball, Dramatic Club 2, 3. Rachel Elizabeth Lillian Hannula A true blue friend fcr any time. Rachel, though she doesn't appear to be such, has a fun-loving n ature. She enjoys dancing and her friends say she tries hard to sing since she is a member of the Glee Club. One of her favorite pastimes is reading. She also finds great fun in kidding the boys. Glee Club 2. Priscilla Hayes The blush is beautiful but it is sometimes inconvenient. Hoya, Hoya! Fitchburg! Rah! This old cheer seems to take on new life when charming Pussy leads it. Pussy is one of our lovelier feminine attractions and incidentally, in great demand by the stronger sex. One of her most prominent characteristics is that beautiful blush. But don't think she is shy! Not Pussy. Basket- ball, Glee Club 2, 3, Dramatic Club, Cheerleader 2, 3, 4, Hockey 2, 4, Art Club, Junior Prom Committee 3, Marshal 4. Bernadine Marie Hazelton The very flower of youth. This attractive miss came to us from Reading, Massachusetts- in our senior year, and won many friends with her charming personal- ity. Bernie has laughing hazel eyes and a pert nose that crinkles quaintly when she laughs. She is fond of bowling. She hopes to enter a school of fashion modeling after graduation. Basketball 4 Laura Mildred Heikkila True worth is in being, not seeming. Laura, or Millie as everyone knows her, is one of our scholarly persons. But books are by no means her chief interest. She special- izes in dancing and can do the modern steps as well as a professional. Her cheerful infectious laughter wins friends, and her loyalty and companionship make them permanent. 9 f 3 Anthony Joseph Iannacone Success by industry and labor. Tony, as he is called by all his friends hails from the Water Street business section. Outside of school hours Tony works in his- sister's store jerking sodas. If ever you should be looking for Tony, look up Anthony Alario and your search will be over. David Scott Jefts Toil is the law of life and its best fruit. David is really an inventor in the rough. He spends most of his time tinkering on gadgets, some of which really work. He is especial- ly well known around the East Side as an excellent driver. He is also a bicycle enthusiast. Relay Team 3. James Joseph Jordan All must be earnest in a world like ours. James is quiet and reserved yet possesses many friends. He participates with enthusiasm in skating and hockey contests. He works hard in school, where he specializes in commercial subjects. He would like a position in some office in this city after he has been graduated. Joseph William Kalagher Better a wit than a sage. Joe, as he is often called, is good for a laugh any day. Joe is an all around athlete but he excels in basketball, which is his favorite sport. Joe played for squad B in '38 and proved himself of great value. He also did well in the Junior-Senior Relay of '38. Basket- ball 2, 3, 4, Relay Team 3. , Evelyn Marguerite Grondin Confidence is a plant of slow growth. This petite blond is noted for her sunny smile, which is never failing. Evelyn is one of our farmerettes who lives way up on the Rindge Road. Evelyn's pet dislike is French, which always brings a worried little pucker between her eyes. This senior's hobby is photography, a hobby which brings her many enjovable hours. Basketball 2, 3, 4, French Club 4. Gloria Guertin She'll scatter sunshine where'er she may go. The travel bug has bitten Gloria. She hopes to be a buyer for a large wearing-apparel concern and go to Paris, London, and New York. This year she has worked as part-timer for Mr. Dufour and Miss Gifford where she is learning business essentials. All who know her have discovered — elle est tres petite et charmante. Glee Club 3. Ethel Groop Haapanen Simplicity is of all things hardest to be copied. Although Ethel is quite reserved, she is conscientious about her work and should advance rapidly. Medicine is Ethel's chief interest, and she hopes some day to become a doctor. At present, she is extremely valuable as co-chairman of the Alumni Committee on the Red and Gray. Dramatic Club 2, 4, Junior-Senior Reception 3, Red and Gray Board 3, 4, Latin Club, Round Table 4. Natalie Marie Helena Hammar Self-trust is the first secret of success. Natalie can often be seen hurrying in or out of the library, for she is Miss Sherwin's busy secretary. She is rather quiet and re- served but has many friends. She never shirks in her studies and will, without doubt, someday be compensated with a worthy position. Page JS

2 Alexander Krysil In whose little body lodged a merry mind. Alec is a happy fellow and always has a smile. Although he isn't a participant in many school activities, he is quite active in church work. He proved to be a very valuable man on our track team. Debating Club 2, Basketball, Track Team, Relay Team 3. Alvar John Kujampaa Toil is the law of life and its best fruit. Al, known to his friends as K. J. O., spends most of his spare time with his radio. Licensed amateur WIKJO, he has built his own transmitting and receiving sets. Dancing also occupies some of his time. Science Club 3. Aime Joseph LaFosse Let us be known by our deeds. Aime is a good-natured clerk at Nourie's Market. When Aime is not serving the public, he may be found skating. He has won many speed championships in this city and throughout New England on his steel runners. Relay Team 3. Jessie Mountfort Hill When duty whispers low, Thou must, youth replies, I can. Jolly Jessie is an ardent tennis fan who goes about collecting pictures, portraits, snapshots, sketches, and what-not from her friends. Jessie is an ex-Leominsterite with a sense of humor and is usually seen about the building with Bernadine Hazelton. Her ambition is to become a nurse. Eila Anita Honkonen Not quiet, not loud But noticeable even in a crowd. Eila came to our class from New York. She is clever and witty, and was praised for her commendable acting at the Open Meeting of the Dramatic Club. She makes friends easily. Glee Club 3, 4, Hockey, Basketball, Volleyball, Dramatic Club, Art Club 4. Priscilla Janet Hopkins It is dangerous to tread on one ivho has red hair. Priscilla is the impulsive redhead of our class. She has a smile for everyone, and a lively temperament that goes with red hair. She likes swing music and her favorite pastime is playing these song hits by ear. She's verv fond of ice skating and dancing. French Club 2, Dramatic Club 2, 3, 4, Glee Club 3. Barbara Roberta Howard 77 is a friendly heart that has plenty of friends. Diminutive Barbara is one of the most talented jitterbugs in our versatile class. Whenever a new jitter is devised, she is one of the first along with a person referred to as Percy to learn its dipsy doodles.
