May the earnestness of purpose and sturdiness of character, shown so clearly in the trials of your senior year, carry you safely through the fires of adversity which may confront you in the future, to the ultimate success which will be yours. James A. Chalmers. 6 Edwin Ellsworth Nickerson A man of sterling qualities, well capable of any task. Eddie, as our class president, has had a lot of hard work to do and in our opinion he has done it all very successfully. Whatever he undertakes, he carries through to a fine finish. Besides being our presi- dent, Eddie was the basketball team manager and a star track man. Debating Club, Prize Speaking Winner 2 Dramatic Club, Open Meeting, Councillor 2, 3, 4 Band 3 Relay Team, Track Team, Red and Grey Board, Class President 3, 4 Basketball Manager, President of School Council, Marshal, Round Table 4 Senior Class Play Mary Tilton Flint A right jolly good laugh has she. For two years Mary has served as the very able vice-president of our class. Besides being a fine leader, she excels in both tennis and the terpsichorean art. At the same time she has maintained high marks in her studies and has always been a membei of the Honor Roll. Her well-dressed appearance, her pleasing voice, and her gay spirit have made her extremely well-liked by both faculty and class. Girls' Tennis Tournament 2, 3 Dramatic Club 2, 3, 4 Marshal, Round Table Phyllis Marion Anderson A modest answer and graceful air, Show her wise as she is fair. Phyllis was our class secretary for two years and she made a good job of it. She is particularly inter- ested in music and her voice has been heard in many school and church musicales. Possessed of a pleasing personality, Phyl is bound to make a name for herself in future years. Hockey, Councillor 2 Class Secretary 3, 4 Open Meeting Ticket Committee Round Table Glee Club, Dramatic Club 4 Oliver Tenho Jackson Worth makes the man. and want of it, the fellow. Oliver was first appointed marshal by our faculty; recognizing his good work and ability, we elected him our class treasurer. Although he did not take a prominent part in sports, Oliver was always present at our athletic as well as our social activities. A popular person with everyone. Football 2, 3 Junior-Senior Reception Committee Councillor 3 Adrien Francis Boudreau Un petit homme. Adrien, as we all know, is quite a minute person in size, but not in activities. From what we h ear, he is prominent at the St. Joseph A. C. in Cleghorn, even though he is some- what reserved in school. Alice Sigrid Erickson b) aren't they all contented like me? Alice is one of our girls who have a smile for ever)'one. Her sense of humor IS excellent. Al knows all the popular songs and we often hear her humming them around school. Although she has never liked school, she has given her full support to it. She has hopes of becoming a tele- phone operator. Basketball 2, 4; Hockey 2, 3 Dramatic Club 4 Arthur Harold Maggs He smiles from dawn to dusk. Mugg's smile is one of those very contagious afflictions which would brighten up even the face of a fellow with indefinites. As a helper at the lunch counter, Arthur could sell a half-filled ice cream cone plus his smile and more than satisfy the victim. Hildegard Clara Innerasky Full of pep, full of fun, A laugh and a smile for everyone. X'ho could ask for a more cheer- ful person than Hildegard ? Her very eyes are brimming over with mirth. She has many clothes which she wears very becomingly. Mr. Howard's room is brightened with her presence every other week. Alexander Campbell MacLean One who could be trusted to do the right thing at the right lime. Alexander, or Mac as he is usually called, is a rather quiet person in school. Perhaps because his heart is in the Highlands. Outside of school, he is an expert fisherman and hunter. His favorite subject is German. Track 2, 3, 4 Glee Club 4 Ellen Irene Karvonen A maiden, modest and self- possessed. This unassuming little girl goes on her way so quietly that we won- der what her greatest interests really are, aside from her studies. She's another of the high honor pupils from Westminster. Henry George Tousignant His thoughts look through his words. A likeable young fellow is Tougie. His interests vary, skating being his chief hobby in winter. He lives 'way up country, but manages to get to school, rain or shine. V Dora Demont Describe her who can. Doras hearty laugh is far-famed among her many friends. She is fond of sports and was always pre- sent at basketball and football games. Dora's chief occupation outside of school was taking care of children. Hockey 2, 3; Basketball 2, 3, 4 Dramatic Club 3 8 Veikko Carlo Freeman All his perfections were so rare The wit of man could not declare Which single virtue or which grace Above the rest had any place. Veikko is a popular boy about school and possesses a charming per- sonality that is very winning. He finds time, however, to take part in school activities and sports. Basketball 2, 3 Junior Dance Committee 3 Junior-Senior Reception Committee 3 Class Treasurer 3 Relay Team 3 Councillor 3, 4 Roger Eugene Frechette Slow spoken, as befits a wise man. Baseball is only one of the activi- ties in which Roger participated while at high school. He has had a bit of bad luck with his studies, but he makes the grade all right. He is rather quiet in school, but quite different outside. Track 2 Baseball 2, 3, 4 Asst. Manager Football 3 Glee Club 3, 4 Jouko Savolainen A man not limited in abilities. One of our most talented boys is Jouko, as is proved by his varied field of abilities. He is an artist of some note, a mathematical genius, and a wizard in the intricate princi- ples of chemistry. He has also man- aged to master German in the few hours of his spare time. Stanley Paul Collette A favorite with the fair sex. Paul, the red-haired dynamo of our class, certainly seems to possess that certain something which brings many girls within beckoning call. Perhaps the reason is that he is so happy-go-lucky. Relay Team 3 Football Manager 4 Ellen Vellamo Pelto Laughing eyes, a merry smile, And a merry, merry heart. Ellen, an amiable and well-liked person, took part in many school sports and was a member of the Senior School Champs hockey team. She plans to take up hairdressing as her vocation. Volleyball, Basketball, Hockey, 2, 3, 4 Adele Husari A good hater. Journalism is the star that gleams ahead of Adele, and her cleverness will carry her far towards this goal. Cast your spell over the editors, Adele, and you're bound to succeed. Her originality frees her from many tight places and her unusual men- tality is ever a source of interest and speculation. Hockey, Volleyball 2 Basketball 2, 4 Dramatic Club 2, 3, 4 Red and Gray Board 3, 4 Debating Club 4 Round Table Edith Lovell Shields And eier as she went some merry lay she sung. Her cheerful smile and witty ban- ter brightened many of our gloomy days. She has made no plans for the future, but when she lands, we can be sure it will be with a grin and on both feet. Dramatic Club 2, 3, 4 Marshal Helen Louise McAuliff Gdze into her eyes — and you see a little angel — Gaze a little longer and you see a little imp. Helen is a little miss who looks like an angel, but from time to time we find out differently. She enjoys physical training, especially when Miss Gibbons is there. We notice that Helen likes to referee at basket- ball games. Councillor 2 Dramatic Club 2, 4 Hockey, Basketball, Volleyball, Referee, Debating Club 2, 3, 4 Debating Club Dance Committee 3 French Club 4 Senior Ticket Committee Open Meeting of Debating Club 9 Warren Wilbur Marcy His friends and fortunes one could guess, By his fine habits and gentleness. Warren is the sort of fellow who mixes well with both sexes. He is very neat in appearance and his beaming expression more than makes up for his quiet demeanor. It will only be a matter of time before he will be showing his heels to many of us in the race for success. William Joseph Courtemanche As happy as the day is long, With hardly ever a lesson wrong. Courtemanche is a man of few words. He is one of our outstanding pupils in the college course, since he has attained a high scholastic record. To our knowledge, he doesn't indulge in sport and seems to be contented with a quiet and mild life. Marshal Rodney Lawrence Erickson A goodly share of laughter in his eye. Bud can always be identified in a crowd by his broad smile and his jolly face. He is not exactly apathe- tic to the opposite sex, although he seems so in school. In winter sports he shines, especially on the skating rink where he has yet to meet his match. Councillor 2 Frederick Thomas Poultney My designs and labor, and my aspirations. Are my friends. Freddie, who hails from West Fitchburg, has always been known to be quiet in and around the schools surroundings. Although this handsome young man is very shy, he has maay friends. Mechani- cal drawing seems to be Freddie's aim. Glee Club 4 ill Eleanor May Parkhurst Hou far that candle throws its beams. Besides possessing an excellent sense of humor, Eleanor is also very candid. Because of these character- istics, she is the life of a certain class. Her determined spirit will without a doubt fulfill her plans for the future. Dramatic Club 2 Glee Club, Holy City, Pop Concert 3 Elna Marian Perko A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance. Elna has a great many friends be- cause of her unfailing good nature. She has done well in all the school sports in which she has taken part. She fu rnished jokes for the Boulder as a member of the joke committee. Basketball, Volleyball 2 Hockey 2, 3 Boulder Joke Committee Rose Flaum Kind and quiet, ahvays neat. Rose has a tendency for the soli- tary life which is seldom broken ex- cept by her close friends. Never- theless, we have perceived that she has many winning qualities. She likes all sports and is a very good volleyball player. Basketball 2 Hockey 2, 3; Volleyball 3 Helvi Irene Wesa Bright as the sun her eyes were, And like the sun, they shone on all alike. Helvi, friend and helper to all, is an inhabitant of the South Side. Her many friends are proof of her amiability and thoughtfulness. One of Helvi's characteristics is to see a job to the finish, which certainly points to a successful life. Basketball 2; Dramatic Club 3 10 3 0[)LD Jl Ji)i:£) Toivo Rustari Quiet but a man of strength. Toby was not particularly inter- ested in taking part in school sports. In school he was of the quiet type. He likes swimming, baseball, foot- ball, skiing, and skating. Relay Team 3 ; Track Team 4 Esther Emelia Waltanen I live not in fnyself, But I become a portion of that around me. Blonde, friendly, and gay fits Esther to a T. She figures that marks are a good thing, but fun is still better, and even if the former must suffer, Let's all have fun, all of which is a pretty good policy, sometimes. Esther has a grand sense of humor and her jollity never ceases. Glee Club, Dramatic Club 3 Erwin Alfred Hecker His words, like so many airy and nimble servitors, trip about him at command. Physically and vocally, Erwin is a man of action. He can form words so quickly and so easily that it re- quires a trained ear to understand him. He moves about with equal grace and ease. Relay Team 3 Rita Josephine Lemoine Good temper is like a sunny day; It sheds its brightness everywhere. Did you ever see Rita when she wasn't smiling? Perhaps the reason for this is that she never worries about her studies. She is, however, an ardent participant in sports and, as a result, has rosy cheeks and sparkling eyes. Volleyball 2, 3 Hockey, Basketball 2, 3, 4 Class Color Committee 3 Dramatic Club 3, 4 William Brown Waddell His works speak for him. W illie is one of our hard-working boys in school and outside. This, combined with his naturally quiet manner makes him rather obscure, but then, the loudest man is not necessarily the smartest ! This is particularly true in Willie's case and his most intimate friends will not be surprised to see him go far in his chosen profession. James Martin McNamara am sure care's an enemy to life. Class loyalty, executive ability, and a thorough enjoyment of life are Jimmie's outstanding characteristics and will probably carry him far in whatever field he selects. A favor- ite with both sexes. Dramatic Club Red and Gray Board 2, 3, 4 Junior Dance Committee 3 Round Table President, Debating Club 4 Mary Little Coombs A stately maid of quiet mien. Mary has gained lots of friends during the past four years because of her quiet manner and sense of humor. She is a very good student and has taken part in many of our activities. Basketball 2 Dramatic Club, Round Table 4 Louise Bull But a merrier girl, Within the limits of becoming mirth 1 never spent an hour's talk withal. Squeeze is one of our most popu- lar girls. She has very ably edited the Red and Gray this past year, and before the fire was an energetic marshal on the third floor. She has a well-known and infectious smile, which has gained her a host of friends. A very capable student, Louise is bound to get along splen- didly at Wellesley. Dramatic Club 2, 3, 4 Debating Club 3 Chairman, Junior-Senior Recep- tion Committee 3 Red and Gray Board 3 Editor-in-Chief, Red and Gray; Marshal, Round Table 4 11 David John Sweeney Business before pleasure. Dave is a lucky fellow. He com- bines his business with his pleasure by serving as an usher at the Cum- ings Theatre. Our guess is that he studies between the acts to have the time he does for outside sports. At any rate, in whatever he does, he brings home the bacon. Basketball 2, 3 Lillian Gladys Filiponis Gentle to hear, kind to judge. Lillian may be small, but, oh my! She is quite a gay chatterer and her willingness to divert her schoolmates has brought her near 310, more than once! She is well liked, however, and supports her school with zest. Volleyball, Basketball 2 Dramatic Club 3 Andrew Hawthorne Cheerily greeting each oncoming da). Gilding with smiles each step of the way. Andy's chief characteristics are his devilish grin and happy-go-lucky manner. He never seemed to have a care, unless it was a new way to make life miserable for his teachers. We do not know Andy s plans for the future, but will wager that in whatever he does he will be suc- cessful. Football 4 Arne Pavo Parnanen Endurance is the crowning quality. And patience all the passion of great hearts. Pavo is known to us as an earnest student. He didn't indulge in school .sports, but was often seen enjoy- ing himself on the skating rink with his friends. Helen Marjorie Rafuse Her voice is like the evening thrush. Helen likes to sing and we enjo i hearing her, although we must say that she didn't give us very many opportunities. Hairdressing is fas- cinating to her and she intends to make it her occupation. Glee Club 3 Katharine Chalmers A sueeter maiden one can not find. The above quotation is perfectly true of Kat. Her lovability made her one of the most popular girls in the class and her fine qualities endeared her still more. Kat is prominent in sports and dramatics, and is, moreover, a very good stu- dent. Hockey, Basketball 2 Dramatic Club 2, 3, 4 Junior-Senior Reception Com- mittee 3 Thanksgiving Dance Committee, Marshal 4 Harold Franklyn Jacobson Oh. it is excellent to have a giant's strength. Harold is one of the tallest boys in our class and one of the most cheerful. One can always draw a good laugh from Harold, be it in work or in play. His height is a great asset on the basketball court, on which he has always been a prominent figure. He is well known for his football prowess, also. Rachel Kenney She does little kindnesses, Which most leave undone, or despise. No rings on her fingers, no bells on her toes, she makes no commo- tion wherever she goes, but in her unassuming way she leaves a defi- nite and restful impression and makes few demands on her friends. Hockey, Basketball, Dramatic Club 2, 3, 4 12 Algidio Pasquale Membrino A good worker who gets results. Membrino has always been known to be quiet around school and many of us were misled by his sober ex- pressions. To our surprise, he is quite the contrary and enjoys him- self at every opportunity. At pre- sent his hobby is setting up pins for the boys at the bowling alley. Junior-Senior Relay 3 Edward Thomas Donnelly A lad of nimble foot. Ed is a newcomer here, but he's made up for that long ago. He is a good dancer and he and his side- kick, Don Boyce, can often be seen at many of the local dances. Al- though he's quiet about the school, don't let him fool you, for he is not so silent outside. Ellen Valvakki Niemi A maiden who is richly blessed With loads of friends and happiness. Although Ellen is fond of danc- ing, her name always appeared on the Honor Roll. Her witty talk and friendliness won her many friends. As a pianist, she is quite accom- plished. Mary Parechanian A face with gladness spread, Soft smiles by human kindness bred. Mary is a quiet girl with a gen- tle disposition. She is careful to have her homework completed, but also finds time to sew and read. Her hobby is collecting snap-shots. William Wallace Revell A fine fellow, liked by all he meets. Bill is more quiet than some of us, but outside of school, so we hear, he is less silent. He is a dependable student. Bill's grin is known to many people and it has helped him to gain many friends. Richard Libby Noble His stately mien as well implied the martial pride as high-born heart. Dick is another of our football men and did very good work with the team. If you ever want an audi- ence for a joke, go to Dick. His countenance marks him as a man with many friends. Football 2, 3, 4 Marshal 'Write-up Committee of Boulder 4 Jacqueline Mary Devens Not bold, not shy, nor short, nor tall. But a good mingling of them all. Jacqueline is calm and serene, but she can smile very sweetly. Al- though not lazy, she never lets any- thing worry her. Jac is always ready to help a friend out of trouble and knows how to take a joke. 'We know that she will never get a ner- vous breakdown from studying. Hockey, Volleyball 2 Elwilda Marie Beaulieu Exceedingly wise. With imploring brown eyes. Edwilda is one of our dark-haired beauties with a tantalizing smile and lively, sparkling eyes. She has a gypsy type of character, always care- free, but when sad, very sad. 13 Stanley John Matuszeuricz A youth was he of quiet ways. Stanley is a quiet lad who hasn't taken much interest in school activi- ties. Size has prevented him from competing with the more brawny fellows in athletics, but he is quite eminent as a caddy at the Oak Hill Country Club. Arvo Aho A jaithful man and honorable. Here is our bashful lad from Westminster. We are told by his friends that his good humor never ceases and that he is always ready for some fun. His sunny disposi- tion has gained him many friends. Angelo Michael lacoboni am master of my fate. Angelo is one of our outstanding pupils in the college course. He has a purpose in life which we trust he will accomplish.! Being a dimin- utive lad, it is impossible for him to participate in all sports. But that doesn't stop him from being one of our tennis stars. Tennis 2, ?i Junior-Senior Relay Team, Debat- ing Club 3, 4 Chairman, Class Motto Committee Boulder Business Manager Round Table Marshal, Open Meeting 4 Veikko Walter Jakola Virtue and genuine graces in themselves Speak what no words can utter. Veikko is a rather quiet boy, but one who is always able to laugh at a good joke. Upholding a family tradition, Veikko is a very capable basketball player and besides this, he excels in baseball and hockey. Baseball 3 Etta May Steeves A worker, a friend, and a student. Etta is one of our girls who has a smile for everyone. She is the best pal of all her friends and is prom- inent in social affairs. Some day soon Etta will be called Nursie, as she has successfully passed her entrance examination at the Burbank. Hockey, Dramatic Club, Debating Club 2 Basketball 2, 3 Volleyball 3 Class Dues Committee 4 Mary Eldora Kendall A merry heart goes all the day. X'hen you really get to know Mazie, you'll find she has a keen sense of humor, for her remarks have often kept us from falling asleep in Math class. Mary is also a good student and seems to enjoy writing English compositions. She intends to study further at Becker College in Worcester. Hockey, Baskeball, Dramatic Club 2, 3, 4 Rhoda Miller Her stature tall — her manner dignified. A good listener is a best seller — that is one of the many reasons for Rhodas popularity with both sexes. On the dance floor, Rhoda's mastery of the intricacies of that art can be immediately recognized. French Club 2 Volleyball 2. 3 Hockey, Basketball, Dramatic Club 2, 3, 4 Alice Gertrude Tousignant Never thought, or dream, or faltering Marred the promise of her youth. Although quiet, Alice is lots of fun and is on hand when there's any excitement. She has a long way to come to school, but manages to be prompt and regular in her at - tendance. She is a good student and a friend to all. 14 Howard Henry Andrews He came in from ihe country. Although Howie plays in the orch- estra, he is not adverse to letting the others play while he guides the fair damsels about the dance floor. As Howie hails from the top of Pearl Hill his favorite song is, I'm way up heyah, she's way down theyah. Senior Thanksgiving Dance Committee Orchestra, Band 2, 3, 4 Raymond Joseph Beaulieu He tried the luxury of being good. Ray, with his winning personality and debonair ways, is one of the best liked boys in our class. He is al- ways ready for fun and is a good sport. Glee Club, French Club 4 Richard Thomas Williams A youth sincere and true. Richard, one of our football men, seems to be satisfied with a mild life. He finds much enjoyment in sports and is often seen down at the Y participating in an exciting basket- bail game. Football 4 Beulah Priscilla Mitchell She doeth all things well. Watertown's loss was Fitchburg's gain when Beulah joined us in our Junior year. Beulah is an excel- lent student and is a pas t master of 'Vergil. How we envied her! Basketball, Dramatic Club 3, 4 French Club, Boulder Write-up Committee, Round Table 4 Yolanda Eleanor Chivilo Her quiet nature seemed to he Tuned to each season's harmony. Yolanda is one of those persons who are endowed with that all too rare power of listening. She is ever alert for any bit of humor and a perpe- tual twinkle in her eyes suggests some mischief which, however, we have yet to see demonstrated. Hockey 2 Volleyball 2, 3 Glee Club 3 Hilkka Mary Heikkila Her soft voice, her alluring charms have won her many friends. Hilkka, always cheerful and friend- ly, is a good and dependable stu- dent, working in the office every other week. She takes part in school sports and has a fondness for skat- ing and dancing. French Club 2 Hockey, Basketball 2, 3 Volleyball, Dramatic Club, Councillor 3 Ollie Kullervo Rasanen There are smiles — Ollie is, as we have observed, a quiet sort of fellow except in Chem- istry. He is limited in his activi- ties outside of school though he is a real all around fellow. Unfortu- nately he fades back in the gallery of school activities. Irma Gertrude Bovellan She walks in beauty like the night Of cloudless climes and starry skies. Irma, one of the most popular members of our class, is a good stu- dent, a participant in school sports, and an excellent swimmer. Dancing is a favorite pastime with her. Basketball 2; Marshal 3, 4 Thanksgiving Dance Committee 4 15 Arthur Oscar Sivula He is the stuff that stands for generations. Arthur is a competent and indus- trious fellow who takes his studies quite seriously. His work has not been unrewarded as his name has been consistently inscribed on the Honor Roll. He is very fond of the great out-doors and camps at Wy- man's every summer. Dramatic Club, Glee Club 3 Barbara Madelene Romano Her sunny temper gilds the edge of life's black cloud. Barbara's friendship is like ster- ling. Although she is very quiet and remote, we never see her without a friend. Barbara works hard so she may attain a high standard in school work. This often keeps her from entering all the activities at school. Basketball, Hockey 2 Dramatic Club 4 Bernard Whittemore A man he serried of cheerful yester- days and confident tomorrows. Bernie has a wonderful leg devel- opment from strolling so much on Main Street, a pastime which con- stitutes his daily exercise. His les- sons never seem to worry him, but he manages to draw satisfactory marks. He is an eager participant in all sports. Hester Parker Enthusiasm is the life of my soul. Hester has shone in all sports. She has a wicked aim with a basket- ball, which has helped her teams to great success. She is not particu- larly interested in studies, but has managed to more than hold her own. Besides basketball, dancing and swim- ming are her favorite sports. Volleyball, 2, 3 Hockey, Basketball, Referee 2, 3, 4 Dramatic Club 3 Waldo Earnest Safford He is always in such perfect humor. One of Waldo's chief interests is sport. He is a member of one of the Y. M. C. A. basketball teams and we have heard that he is also an excellent hockey player. Waldo is a rather quiet looking chap, but Miss Haskins wishes his actions coincided with his appearance. p Barbara Louise Pearson Her mild expression spoke a mind In duty firm, composed, resigned. Barb is one of those persons who try always to please others regard- less of the sacrifice to herself. She seems to find plenty of time to enjoy herself though and is often seen at Rainbow dances. George Robert Weldon He hath no power who hath not power to use. Although he did not participate in school sports, Weldy is an excel- lent athlete. His favorite occupa- tion is playing hockey for Brick Mill. He is not especially interested in his lessons, but he usually has the an- swers when called for. Football Squad B 2 91 Ruth Lilyan Sulkin Intermingled mirth and earnestness. Ruth's impulsiveness is entertain- ing. She is always happy to join in any enterprise that will result in a jolly time. Thanks to her pleasing personality, it most assuredly is a jolly time. Swimming is the pastime of which she is most fond. French Club 2 Basketball, Volleyball, Hockey 2, 3 Dramatic Club 2, 3, 4 16 Aubrey Edgar Hastings Titles of honor add not to his worth Who is himselj an honor to his titles. Aubrey is the sort of fellow one would like to know better. He has a wide and varied range of knowl- edge which often shows itself in his class work. If you want an interest- ing discussion on anything from sports to religion, go to Aubrey. He keeps in fine physical condition by basketball and gym work. Junior Reception Junior Dance Councillor Joseph Tamulonis The world belongs to the energetic. Joe is a tall, friendly, and unas- suming lad, whose only regret is that he hasn't enough time for his book- keeping. He was a supporter of our relay team last year. Relay 3 James Bernard Kalagher He had the warmth of genial courtesy, The calm of self-reliance. Jimmy is a favorite of many of the boys around school. He has a great love for athletics, and although his light weight is a handicap, he was a star on the football team. Jim doesn't say much, but his sunny disposition speaks for him. Football 2, 3, 4 Track 3, 4 Chester Richard Johnson A silent man, hut one in whom the world rejoices. Chester, or rather Chet, is a quiet lad, but nevertheless, he is very popu- lar with everyone. You should hear the girls rave about his mastery of the dance. Besides that achieve- ment, Chet is also good in the class- room. Red and Gray Board 3, 4 Glee Club 4 Lily Marie Kempi Street mercy is nobility's true badge. Lily has courage which, no doubt, will carry her far in the future. She is another one who travels a long way to secure an education and her good marks show that she studies. Basketball, Dramatic Club 2 Laura Edith Vincent She has a head to contrive, a heart to resolve, and a hand to execute. Anyway he's got a good start. Irving Stanley Stewart His good nature is a proper soil Upon which virtue grows, We know Irving as one of the leading mischief-makers in our class. Councillor, Hockey 2 Dramatic Club 2, 3, 4 Debating Club 3 Class Color Committee 3 Marshal 4 19 Olavi Soini Lystila A scholar and a ripe and good one. Olavi is a rather unassuming chap. Richard Berger His hark is worse than his bite. Richard has been blessed with the gift of being able to explain a happening or situation so dramati- cally that one cannot help admiring his genius. His secret is the use of physical rather than oratorical powers. You should see him play basketball and then explain the scor- ing plays afterwards. Hockey, Volleyball, Debating Club, Dramatic Club 2 Glee Club 2, 3 Basketball 2, 3, 4 30 Mark Guy Thatcher, Jr. Learning makes a man a fit companion for hirnselj. Mark also wields a wicked typewriter during his part- time work. Chairman, Ring Committee 4 Herbert George Reynolds He is jusl the quiel kind W hose nature never varies. Charley, one of the happy-go-lucky boys of our class, hopes to be a famous astronomer some day. He studies quite a bit on the subject and this, combined with his inter- est in radio, certainly ought to take him places. His manner and general attitude made him a favorite with many. Relay Team, Glee Club 3 Ralph Raymond Fletcher An honest man is the noblest work of God. Ralph's skill as a hunter, espe- cially a fox-hunter, and as a fisher- man, is almost unexcelled. His chief diversion from the serious task of studying is telling jokes to his friends. Joseph John Adams, Jr. He who is honest is noble Whatever his fortunes or birth. He is in- interested in stamp-collecting and model airplanes. Stacia Theresa Norgus One to drive away the clouds And call in the sunshine. Stacia is rather quiet, but many times we are reminded of her pre- sence by a good natured laugh. She is fond of sports and participates not only in those at school, but also skates. Another of her pastimes is the movies which she patronizes quite frequently. Hockey 2 Volleyball 2, 3, 4 Edgar Charles Nasis Better to be small and shine than to be great and cast a shadow. Edgar's contortions as an inspired cheerleader and his histrionic con- tributions to the dramatic reputa- tion of the class were his outstand- ing extra-curricular activities. We have a hunch that he knows half the dictionary by heart — he was Miss Dunn's chief looker-upper ! Perhaps some day she will be guiding small pupils on the road to education. Hockey, Basketball, Debating Club 2, 3, 4 Open Meeting Ticket Committee 3 Marshal 4 Virginia Munson True worth is in being, not seeming. The above quotation will give you an idea of Gin, as she not only seems to be a grand person, but is! He is espe- cially interested in baseball. Glee Club 2 Uuno Eugene Sultan All actual heroes are essential men, And all men are possible heroes. Eugene is a boy who possesses certain natural abilities for leader- ship. However, he is exceptionally shy and modest and therefore dis- plays these qualities only when among friends. He is also one of these unsung athletic stars who hate the public eye. Harold Victor Pickering He knew the precise psychological moment when to say nothing. Harold, as we know, never has had too great a love of books and study. But his ingenious mind some- times reminds us of Edison. His interest lies wholly in mechanics and engineering. Someday his golf career may make the world forget Bobby Jones. Dramatic Club 2, 3, 4 Glee Club, Debating Club 3, 4 William Edward Haulman Silence best speaks the mind. Carefree Bill — that was how we always knew him. Nothing ever worried him — not even exams. Yet he always managed to scrape through. A most faithful supporter of all acti- vities, he has our hearty wishes for success. Shirley Cleverly Red are her cheeks. Relay Team 3 Class Motto Committee 3 Band Orchestra Round Table Hymie Silverstein Thou art a fellow of good respect. Hymie is one of our silent mem- bers, but outside he has plenty to say. He has not excelled in any one thing, but has done good, all- around work. Albert Henry Gorham An all-around good fellow is the greatest honor among man. Arbie, representing the South Side, showed us how a good center plays football. He attributes his prowess to his huge appetite; in fact, during the chorus period, he sometimes can't resist munching a sandwich. Never mind, Arbie, we admire your physique. Football 3, 4 Marcus Coolidge Delaney ■ My life is full of gaiety. A gay young blood is our Marcus. He is invariably on deck at the Y every Saturday evening. Orchestra 2, 3, 4 George Richard Meldrum 'Tis goodwill makes intelligence. George, or Jiggie as he is better known, does not indulge in school athletics with the exception of bas- ketball. Outside of school, Jiggie is very versatile in all activities. He is also very popular with his own particular circle of friends, all of whom can testify to his good sense of humor. Joseph Francis Taylor ]o) is the mainspring on the whole Of endless Nature's calm rotation. Joe spends a considerable part of his time at the Oak Hill Country' Club. We hear he has taken up dancing as a pastime; we wonder why? His favorite sports are golf, swimming, skating, and football. Football 2, 3, 4 Kathleen Margaret Gallagher A friend to all. He is an addict of modern music and sits up till the wee hours listening to various orchestras. Track Team, Relay Team 3 Donald Rawdon Boyce The stranger within our gates. Don came to us from Gardner and although he has been rather promin- ent in school activities here, we un- derstand he left his heart there. Due to his scholastic standing, we expect he will do very well nexi year in college. Glen Oscar Withington Gentle in manner, firm in reality. Glen is one of the darkest com- plexioned boys in our class. He is an extremely quiet fellow and is taking the general course. In addi- tion he is one of those most fortunate mortals who never seem to get in trouble with the powers that be. Anna Isabell Meldrum As gay as a linnet, and yet As tenderly sweet as a dove Anna has never been fond of the serious side of school. Hockey 2 Basketball, Dramatic Club 2, 4 Dorothy Frances Parker Here is a waterfall of action and thought. Johnny, for thus we know her, was very fond of sports and though we suppose the girls' teams will get on somehow without her, they un- doubtedly will miss her loyal sup- port. Because of her good-natured outlook, she has gained many friends. Volleyball 2 Hockey, Basketball 2, 3, 4 43 John Francis Lavoie W'h) days pass pleasanll) awa). The play is laid around an isolated country estate called Mystery Manor, which was thought to be haunted. Erma Lowrie, a young shopgirl, inherited Mystery Manor from her eccentric aunt, and according to the terms of the will, she must live there for one year. Erma is warned about a tiger said to haunt the house and is also told that a priceless jewel necklace stolen from an Indian tribe that worshipped tigers is in the house. A mystery woman staggers through the door and is about to tell Erma an important secret, when the lights go out and the woman vanishes. Arthur gives Erma his theories of the mystery, cast- ing suspicion on Yami. Later, suspicion is thrown on Macintosh who has disappeared. Erma and Arthur find a secret room in which they find Mac. They also learn how to find the jewels, which are hidden in a crystal bowl. Mac and the Mystery Woman, who has returned, lie in wait for the Tiger. Erma now leaves the secret room in which she has been trapped, with Yami and is about to take the jewels when Thomson appears, immediately followed by the Tiger. After locating the jewels, the Tiger and Thomson are about to leave when stopped by Macintosh. Arthur is exposed as the Tiger and taken away with his partner by Murphy, a local officer. Erma gives Yami the jewels and he returns the gift as a wed- ding present for Erma and Macintosh. And yet our tongues betray us, our surcharged hearts imply That for so deep a feeling, words fail to satisfy. It matters not how humble the task that we must do. The mem'ry of thy teachings will surely lead us through. The years to come will find us upright, courageous, free; And, F. H. S., we'll realize we owe it all to thee. For thou hast taught that Courage and Honor conquer all ; By trusting in these precepts we know we ne'er can fall. Second stude says, I had to attend my grandfather's funeral. Principal releases first stude telling him to bring a note, and to the second stude says, Aha! a very likely story. You expect me to believe the old story, eh? Take five . Conclusion — Truth is stranger than fiction and sessions go on forever. 75 SENIOR NOTABLES Atlihitio is Ed Nickerson A. Barker We have decided to take up a collection and buy Joe Wazal a rope as he is very fond of skipping. Mildred Slattery — 'I understand that Marcus can hammer like lightning. Irma Bovellan — He sure can. You know lightning never strikes twice in the same place. Two faces were close together. The frail hands caught Illig's horrified gaze — Good gosh! It was the face of his watch and the hands pointed to 12:30. He'd overslept. Noble came in late. Much laughter. Miss Dunn, I wish you wouldn't laugh at every silly thing. 76 M. Kendall — I think I have a cold or something in my head. G. Rahmberg — It's a cold. L. Bull — When a radio comedian is good, he may be very good; but when he is bad, somebody in the family insists on listening. F. Dustan — Of all magnets, I think a bed is the most powerful on Monday morning. On the way down to Washington, on the Hi-Y trip, the second car in which Leonard Landall rode, ran out of gas at 5:30 a. m. They drew up beside a filling- station, outside of which an antiquated fire engine was parked. They could see the proprietor inside, but were unable to awaken him, so they rang the fire siren to get results. They did. The fellow asleep was the town constable. In a few moments the fire chief, not Ed Wynn, came running up in his pajamas. The constable came out shouting, You're all pinched. They had rung the fire alarm. About that time, the other car came up and was pinched also. After numerous apologies and a secret conference in the filling-station, the prisoners, now meek and mild, were allowed to depart in peace. They thought for an entire week that the party was charged a $10.00 fine. While MacMullen, head scribe for the expedition, was taking notes in the Supreme Court Building, a secret service man asked him if he was a reporter. Some joke, eh? We thought so when we read his journal. Boyle and Whiston had a wrestling match one night in camp. The only fatalities were two pair of pajamas. The bout was refereed, given a decision, and stopped by the camp cop. When the fellows stayed out late, the penalty was to be locked out. But what use was it to try this, when every key in the camp fitted the lock.'' Dustan's interpretation of traffic lights: Green — Go. Yellow — Go. Red — Keep on going. We noticed that those who went on the Washington trip were avoided for a time until people were certain that they had not caught the measles. A goat ate all our other jokes And then began to run. I cannot stop, he croaks, I am so full of fun. 77 THE BILLBOARD •shac -p t Ni Vooe vV(TSo RF«sa,u«eLF f , Otis -b-oJ NOTICE Who SToLe NtV t f Ts THEMo THeV fll?F lMPoETfW T Ed N c c:e (esofi sPo CLASS T'ers.
