Your accomplishments should be viewed with great pride. Fitch Senior High School has always been a school with fine academic standards and you, the Class of 1986, are the first class to graduate under even higher and more stringent academic standards. Please allow me to leave you with a quotation from Whittaker Chambers . . . “When you understand what you see, you will no longer be children. You will know that life is pain, that each of us hangs always upon the Cross of himself. And when you know that this is true of every man, woman, and child on earth, you will be wise. Robert J. TO THE SENIORS: Today is an exciting time to be taking a step in a new direction; a challenging time to plot your life's career. Technology has opened up a whole realm of opportunity unburdened by the barna- cles of the past and paying equally for the talents of men and women. Set your goals for the year 2000; establish your objectives now to reach those goals; use your imagination; be positive; think cre- atively about your purpose; and plan for a way to provide some measure of service to our demo- cratic way of life — a commitment to the individ- ual, the community, the state, and the nation. We urge you to strive constantly toward betterment of self in all that you do in the years ahead. This small world of ours needs you, our promising youth. Congratulations and Best Wishes for a pro- ductive and personally satisfying future. TO: Fitch Graduates Be polite and friendly, work hard - everything else will come naturally. D. William Wheetley Assistant Superintendent Joan D. Stipetic, Ph.D. Superintendent of Schools 19
