Administra tion RONALD K. GANDIA Principal Truth is the secret of eloquence and of virtue, the basis of moral authority; it is the highest summit of art and of life. Henri Amiel When a man assumes a public trust, he should consider himself as public property. Thomas Jefferson TO THE CLASS OF 1976 The Class of 1976 will be one of the largest to graduate from Fitch Senior High School. As such you represent as a group, the finest that Groton has to offer. In the three years I have known you, I have grown to feel pride in the way you have been able to express yourselves and in the record which you shall leave behind for other classes to follow. In speaking to the faculty and other members of the administration, they all have indicated their faith in your ability to move ahead and to help make this a better world. With young men and women as dedicated and hard-working as you are I feel that our nation can rum over the reins of government, business and social services to you with full knowledge that you will carry on and do an excellent job. To the Class of 1976, I congratulate you and I pray that your future lives shall be pleasant and that all your plans and hopes will be fulfilled. My best wishes for your continued success and happiness. Ronald K. Gandia RICHARD F. CHAPMAN Superintendent of Schools

9 LOUIS CAOUETTE — Vice Principal PATRICIA J BERG — Dean We are living in an era in which there has developed a growing con- cern for the conservation of our natural resources. Along this vein, it would be wise to consider the most precious natural resource we have at our disposal — intellectual ability. If we succeed in conserving water, forests, and other natural resources and neglect the development of our minds, we have failed. I hope that you, the class of ’76, have taken advantage of the oppor- tunities offered you at Fitch Senior High and have developed your thinking processes to the greatest degree. If you have fallen short of this goal, and most of us have, I trust you will work even harder throughout your lives to continue to improve yourselves and become self-reliant, independent thinkers. Best wishes to each graduate of the class of ’76, and may you achieve the success you deserve. P. J. Berg The Class of 1976 is unique in that it is graduating in the Bicenten- nial Year. Two hundred years ago young people of your age were fight- ing and dying for freedom and liberty . . . the same freedom and lib- erty you enjoy today. One hundred years ago young people of your age were still trying to establish freedom and liberty for ALL citizens. Today after two hundred years the conflict still has not come to an end. It seems that the struggle for freedom and liberty is never ending. While the present conflict docs not involve bullets it is nevertheless very real to many people who every day must fight the battles of pov- erty, disease, discrimination, injustice and ignorance. Just look around you and you will find that these problems involve each and every one of us, either directly or indirectly since they arc part of society. The Class of 1976 is better equipped educationally to cope with the challenges that confront you and stand in the way of a hater life for ALL its citizens. Always remember that the freedom and liberty you presently enjoy is your inheritance from previous generations who were willing to fight for it. Your children must live in a world you bequeath them. What will it be like? Nobody knows. To you I say, Go forth and spread the Spirit of ’76.” There is still much to do. My best wishes to each and every one of you. Louis Caouette CLIFFORD C. TAYLOR — Dean The three unique years spent in school at Fitch Senior High are but launching pads for your uncharted futures. It is my hope that the expe- riences we shared have given each member of the class of 76 a sense of worth, purpose and direction which will be helpful in solving life’s future problems. To each of you: Congratulations upon your gradua- tion, and best wishes for long and successful careers in whatever you choose as your life’s work. C.
