PRESIDENT ' S MESSAGE PRESIDENT SANFORD L. FISHER To the Class of 1969: The day of graduation is a time of looking forward, but one looks back, too, in an attempt to remember the incidents, decisions, and labor that led to this happy moment — to cast back many a fond regret — and to take pleasure in the solid achievements that one has been able to make. It is a good time to assay your capacities; for having done this, you can do more. During your years at Fisher Junior College, though you may not have known it, my eyes have been upon you, and I have known in considerable detail what you were doing and whether you were happy doing it. At graduation, I feel that I am launching a new fleet of ships, each equipped as well as we could equip it and each setting forth on a voyage of discovery from which great things may come. You have not only my good wishes; you have my continuing life-long interest in your affairs. Most sincerely. Sanford L. Fisher 2

DEDICATION DOCTOR JAMES VAUGHN Most of us realize that a successful teacher has to possess many assets. Such a teacher is equal parts ed- ucator and outstanding human being. He knows when to encourage a laugh and when to settle down in the active pursuit of knowledge. In this case, the successful teacher, to which this book is dedicated, has also been an invaluable friend and confidant — taking a human interest in our social as well as academic lives. Such a man values the re- sponsibilities and rewards of shaping those who will shape the future. Such a man realizes the joy and sac- rifice involved in the giving of oneself toward the success and happiness of others. It is to this man, Doctor James Vaughn, that we the class of 1969 proudly dedicate the BEACON. 3
