DEDICATION The highest of distinction is service to others. King George VI Service through her work best exemphfies Mrs. Constance A. Hodgdon. Not only does Mrs. Hodgdon perform the many duties nec- essary as secretary to the Director of Student Services and Placement, but she plays a major role in placing Fisher Junior College graduates, past and present, in appropriate positions. Her patience and compassion to all who seek her assistance en- courages all with whom she works to set forth on a new career with self-confidence. In this day of automation, Mrs. Hodgdon ' s cooperation and personal interest is a joy. We, the Class of 1968, hereby dedicate the 1968 BEACON to Mrs. Constance Hodgdon, a woman whom we feel is devoted in her service and loyalty to Fisher Junior College.

PRESIDENT ' S MESSAGE To the Class of 1968: Though one seldom realizes it at the time, each life is marked by- milestones, vhich, as one passes them, make a sort of graph of one ' s progress for good or ill. Your graduation from Fisher Junior College is one of these markers. There have been several before this , such as the first day of kin- dergarten which marked the close of your infancy. And there will be landmarks in the future — your first job, your marriage. Though I will not go any further with this analogy, the latter part of life has milestones, too. What I want to say about them is that, pausing at the moment when the terminating event occurs, one looks back to see what the route has been and whether or not any progress has been made. So at this moment, which you are Joyfully anticipating, I am sure that you are scrutinizing what you have done at Fisher, weighing it, assessing yourself in relation to what has been demanded of you. If you have a sense of accomplishment for having done as well as you could, this is a moment of great satisfaction. You can say to your- self, Having done this, I can do more. And I hope with all my heart that you will go on to just that — doing more and doing well. All of us at Fisher hope for you the best of all good things. As for myself, I have somewhat the feeling of launching a fleet. Today the sea looks calm, but out there on the horizon there are doubtless strong winds and adverse tides. I will pray for your fortitude. You can summon both courage and good sense to aid you, and I hope you will do it . 6
