Learning From Our Past; JEANNE CECILE KLOCKER University of Akron VIRGINIA D. BARBIERI Mundelen College University of Akron Learning from the mistakes of the past, working to understand the present and striving to overcome the future are the foundations upon which the required history courses of Firestone are based. Sophomores get an overall view of the past by taking world history, taught by Mrs. Virginia Barbieri, Miss Jeanne Klocker and Mr. Robert Whitney. Focusing on the events of America, juniors take American history, taught by Miss Klocker, Mrs. Mary Anne Nebiker and Mr. William Turanchik. Seniors concern themselves with our goven- ment by taking problems of democracy, taught by Mr. David Marshall, Mr. Ronald Snid er and Mr. Michael Barich (pictured on page 20). Creativity and Music Challenge the Imagination Students at Firestone are given the chance to set their creativity in motion by pursuing various art and music courses. Mr. Denis Chasek teaches sculpture, ceramics and crafts, while Mr. Jere Culver instructs graphic art, which includes painting, printmaking, drawing and design. Mr. Joseph Lentine and Mr. Arnold Thomas constitute the music team — vocal and instru- mental. Aside from directing the various choirs at Firestone, Mr. Thomas teaches music theory and music history. Mr. Lentine directs the concert band and the marching band. Film making is a new course offered this year at Firestone and is taught by Mr. Charles Garrett.
