English Serves as the Foundation Firestone students have an opportunity to read great past and contemporary literature under the instruction of the English, department. Members of the English department teach basic literature to most sophomore classes and American literature to juniors and sophomore honors classes. In the past, senior and junior honors classes studied English literature. This has been changed so that seniors may now choose World literature, practical English or journalism for their English requirement. In addition to regular English classes, Mr. David Robb and Firestone ' s debate coach, Mr. Thomas Smith, teach speech and drama. Miss Nancy Mettler and Mr. John Vandever are in charge of literary seminar. Mrs. Ruth Nilsson is the new Volplane advisor and Miss Joann Detzel is the newspaper advisor. Miss Detzel, Mrs. Darlene Troyer and Mr. Robert Schlemmer are newcomers to Firestone ' s English department.
