Science and Mathematics WALDEMAR BENDER U. of Akron DONALD J. NUTTER Kent State U. Notre Dame ALEX RACHITA College of Wooster U. of Akron The mathematics department at Firestone offers the studies of bus- iness and refresher math, Algebra I and II, geometry, math analysis, and advance placement calculus. Business math and refresher math are taught by Mr. Glyn Parker. Mrs. Dorothy Vance, Mr. Virgil Yeynert, and Mr. Alex Rachita teach Algebra I and II, which emphasizes the understanding of abstract mathe- matics. Geometry, taught by Mr. Yey- nert, Mr. Rachita, and Mr. Waldemar Bender, stresses logical proof and sys- tematic thinking. This provides the background for more advanced math studies such as math analysis, taught by Mr. Rachita, and calculus, taught by Mr. Donald Nutter. Analysis is the study of analitical geometry and ele- mentary functions and serves as an introduction to calculus, which in- volves the concepts of limits and rates of change and differentiation.
