PHYLLIS LERCH The counseling staff at Firestone is always available in time of need. Students can always depend on its members to help with both their academic and personal problems. The staff is made up of Miss Ruth Courtney, Mr. Kay Fluke, and Miss Phyllis Lerch. Mr. William Tenney has been the principal of Firestone High for four years. During these years Mr. Tenney ' s leadership has enabled the school to make advances in all areas. He has improved student-administra- tion relations by helping to create new pro- grams such as the student center and the open-lunch periods. Before coming to Fire- stone, Mr. Tenney was principal of Akron Evening High School, Secondary Summer Schools, and Jennings Junior High. Mr. Ten- ney ' s many accomplishments have earned him the admiration and respect of the entire student body. The Office-Catalyst Mr. Calvin Tritt has been the assistant principal at Firestone High School since its beginning in 1962. As assistant prin- cipal he is concerned with student disci- pline, the payment of delinquent fees, operation of the book store, and the handling of textbooks. Mr. Tritt is always working to improve the attitude and atmosphere of Firestone.

U. of Dayton The Study of Great Literature Enriches Life The English department introduces students to some of the world ' s finest literature. Students also have an oppor- tunity to impr ove their vocabularies, usage, and writing and verbal skills. Sophomore classes are taught by Mr. Earl Love, Mrs. Ruth Nilsson, and Mr. David Robb. Most juniors and the sophomore honor classes study American literature with Mrs. Florence Rosenfeld, Mr. Richard Pasher, and Mr. Thomas Smith. Miss Nancy Mettler, Mrs. Margaret Van- Horne, Mr. John Vandever, Mrs. Sandra Kent, and Mr. Robb teach English literature to seniors and junior honor students. Senior honors and advanced placement classes study world literature under Mr. Vandever and Miss Mettler. Mr. Smith has classes in drama and speech. He also conducts an independent reading seminar and is coach of the debate team. As well as teaching sophomore English, Mr. Love is the adviser of the visual aids department. Mr. Vandever chit-chats with his class. 18
