Mr. Wallace Nolin leads the choir in singing of Christmas carols. Foreign language courses offered at Firestone include Latin, German, Spanish, and French. The objectives of studying a foreign tongue involve the ability to under- stand, to speak, to read, and to write the language. Students acquire a knowledge of a foreign culture and literature. The language lab is helpful to both teachers and students, for it makes possible the fluent speaking and better understanding of the language. The department also enables the teacher to help individual students to perfect their reading and writing of the language, Y Y Miss Margaret Miller Mrs. Maria Todorovic The music department concentrates upon performance and appreciation as well as a theoretical knowledge of music, Performance is encouraged through musicals and afternoon programs, appreciation may be cultivated in music history class and in viewing performances, and theoretical knowledge may be gained through the music theory course. Music theory, music history, and the choir are managed by Mr. Wallace Nolin, while the band and orchestra are directed by Mr. Joseph Lentine. Domestic And Manual Arts Provide Lasting Art, home economics, and industrial arts are offered to talented students of Firestone High School. These departments, in addition to devel- oping skills in their respective areas, assist the school in various projects by such activities as making the sets for school dramatic productions , fguh' and sewing costumes for the actors. The home economics section, which includes i foods, clothing, and home management, aids the student in the essentials of running a practical home, It is managed by Mrs. Jacquiline Taylor. The industrial arts department, headed by Mr. Paul McKeever, lays a foundation in mechanical drawing and in wood and metal working. The art department develops talents in various areas, such as jewelry design, ceramics, and work in other Mr. Denis chusek Mr. Jere Culver media, and is handled by Mr. Denis Chasek and Mr. Jere Culver. Perfecting their designs absorbs the interest of the art students. il 28
