'EME In spite of his many commitments at school, Dr. Steiden managers some time to spend with his family. DEDICATION The staff of FINIS '71 is honored to dedicate this yearbook to our principal, Dr. William E. Steiden. He has served in this capacity since 1969 and has lived in Finneytown since 1964. His Bachelor of Music was earned at the Uni- versity of Kentucky, his Master of Arts at the University of Louisville, and his Doctor of Education from Xavier University. Before coming to Finneytown, Dr. Steiden taught in- strumental music, was a college advisor and college band director, He was also an assis- tant principal in the Cincinnati school, and took time off to finish his doctorai require- ments. He is happy he came to Finneytown and enjoys the students, whom he feels are capable and responsible and not different from his other contacts with students. How- ever; he feels there is much room for change, and has severat programs in mind still to be effected. Among these would be a new department concerning resources, with centers in the courtyards where students could work independently; more electives in communications, the behavioral sciences, and computer instruction, an improved lunch- room, an auditorium, and enlarged physical education facilities. Generally, Dr. Steiden hopes Finneytown students can begin to as- sume the responsibility for their own educa- tion. AT LEFTeDr. Steiden plays the piano while children, Susan and Eric. look on. He spends some of his free time with his family fishing and swimming, and he used to collect electric trains. His children are involved in Scouts and music iessons. +3 insivwwwwrviM-A Winniinunuu ninmiiiiiiit . x . i ! D . MARTIN Back in 1945 and down at Whit- aker School was when it all began, that is, for Mrs. Lillian Martin, Director of food service for the Finneytown School District. She also serves as manager of the high school cafeteria. Mrs. Martin recalls the early days here at the high school when, what is now, the teacher's lunch room and the store room, served as boys and girls shower rooms. The main lunch room served as both boys and girls gym. Multi- purpose it was and yet seldom did she get a gym sock or shoe in the soup. The kitchen space is basically the same, says Mrs. Martin, hand yet we now serve over 1300 stu- dents as compared to 250 in those early days. Hopefully someday the kitchen and dining facilities can be enlarged to meet our growing needs. With so many appetites to satisfy it is impossible to hit it 1007:; but we feel we owe Mrs. Martin a big WELL-DONE and hope that she will continue for another twenty sixyears. ABOVE: Mrs. Martin makes out numerous reports, menues and orders to various food companies. BELOW: Checking items before setting upthe lunch lines. 162 THE HALLMARK OF PHOTOGRAPHY VALENTINE SPECIAL 4 Coma sun 555 East Galbraith Road Cincinnati, Ohio Phone 761-9800 Best Wishes to the Class of '71 William R. a Mary Hereford Hair StYIiStS 932 Hempstead Dr.522-3160 BRENTWOOD THE CENTRAL TRUST 00- TEXACO SERVICE CENTER Brentwood Plaza Office Robert Westerman, Jr. Congratulations Phone 521-5805-if Busy 521-9146 Class Of ,71 Brentwood Plaza, Hemstead and Winton Parchman 8 JERRY MARK'S PHARMACY oyler 522-5100 REALTORS 8584 Winton Road Free Delivery-Post0ffice P 0 THEanIIyOKHOMESQ 164 Pixie Florists 8621 Winton Rd.
