GPENING DAY IN COMMERCIAL DEPARTMENT. Tlie month of September had dawned. The f vacation, which had been a joyous one to more than one, Was drawing to an end. Each day Went by on Wings for there were so many preparations to be made. The day before school opened, I Went to the mailbox repeatedly in hopes of hearing from my chum. I Was at last rewarded for a letter was handed to ine and from my chum at that. I tore it open quickly and read it eagerly. She said she would arrive in Hancock, Wednesday on the 8:15, that being the same train that I was to take. The rest of the afternoon passed With more or less excite- ment until the departure came, then I felt a tinge of sadness coming over ine, and While at the station I must admit, that tears ran down my cheek. When the train was seen in the distance I forgot all my tears and only thought of meeting my chum. It was a happy meeting and We had such a lovely talk that I forgot all about leaving home and kept on talking as cheer- fully as though I never had been gloomy. We arrived safely in Hancock and to our surprise there Were several students at the station to meet us. After all arrangements were made, We Went to bed, for We had had a very tiresome jour- ney and wanted to get up early the next morning. Thursday morning to our surprise We awoke at half past six, only half an hour before breakfast. My chum dressed in a hurry and was ready long before I was for I stopped to talk and as I was putting on my shoes the bell rang. Consequently I had to skip at least a half a dozen buttons on each shoe but in a minute I was at the breakfast table. Breakfast being over, We had to get ready for the 8 o'clock shorthand class. All the students were in and Miss Pert- tula, the teacher, came in with a smile and a Good Morn- 48
