Neljiis opistolla toimivista seuroista on S'ZlO7flZClZCl'Zt7fZ67 L puhu- jafseura, joka Vield edellisten lisizlksi perustettiin V. 1913. Ku- ten jo nimestlaikin huomaa, on sen piiiitarkoitus kehittiiisi op- pilaissa puhujan lahjoja, sekii myiiskin kauniita esiintymis- tapoja. Tiimii ja Phi1omatiC -seura pitiivleit kokouksiaan perjantai-iltasin. Paitsi edelliei mainituita on vielii viideskin seura, jonka ole- massaolo on aivan Viilttitmiitijn. Se on Rafcmatzm lul.:z1pzfzT1'zT. Se perustettiin V. 1914. Seuran tarkoituksena on tutustut- taa oppilaita enemmitn ja enemmiin raamattuun. Kokouksia. tlaimii seura pitiiial tavallisesti sunnuntai-iltapleiivisin, ja sen jiisenet kiiyviit silloin tiilltiin kbyhkliutalolla tervehtimiissii viihziosaisia ja vaivaisia kansalaisiamme. Toisten seurojen jiaisenet mytiskin tekeviit n. k. hy6kk2iys- re13ki2i ympiiristijn suomalaisten keskuuteen, siten virkistiien seklai itseiilein ettii niitlei, joiden luokse kulloinkin matka teh- dlaliin. Nlalihin edelllei mainittuihin seuroihin on jokaisella oppi- laalla vapaus kuulua. Kaikkien seurojen yhteisenzi tarkoituksena on kasvattaa oppilaissa veljeys- ja sisaruustunnetta toisia kohtaan, sekii my6skin kauniita, viattomia ja puhtaita seuraelialmin tapoja, ettiei he sitten koulusta piiiistysiiin Voisivat kansalaistensa kes- kuudessa oikein ja menestyksellisesti toimia, tuottaen siu- nausta kansalleen ja itselleen sekii ennenkaikkea Jumalalle kunniaa. Hence some .hQ47?M means of invigoration and movement must be provided for them. Of course, the various outdoor sports, which the long and snowy winter of the Copper Country affords, are valuable to some extent. Such sports as skating, skiing, snowshoeing, and coasting benefit those who take advantage of them. The students, as a whole, receive more benefit from the gymnastic exercises, which are regular and espe- cially arranged by the school for them. Since we have no hall for the gymnastic purposes such a one has been rented by the College from the North Star , a Finnish Temperance Society, that owns a large and spa- cious hall. For certain reasons attendance of these exercises has not been made compulsory and therefore, as a whole, the stu- dents have not partaken of them. However, the interest shown by those, who have attended regularly, proves that the work of the enthusiastic leaders Miss L. Kangas and Mr. H. Mustonen has not been in vain. Twice a week both the boys and girls have had their practises. May the time soon come when we shall have our own well equipped -hall for gymnastics, so that our school may be better provided for helping its students to maintain their health. J. A. H. 38
