all the other seasons in its beauty and grandeur. Indeed could it be otherwise, for during the long winter months peo- ple become restless and nervous and long for a change, such a change as spring brings with it. It gives new life and vigor to nature as well as to humanity. The melancholy nature of the winter passes away and in its stead spring steps in, beautifully adorned in its new attire. The numerous migratory birds return in great multitudes from their sunny southern homes to cheer our hearts with their melodious and pathetic songs. Whose heart would not be gladdened in list- ening to their joyful songs uttered in a few rapturous notes in praise of God! All the tedious labors and experiences of the severe winter then disappear from human hearts like a haze at the approach of the bright morning sun. The past with all its imperfections and bitter experiences is forgotten. One feels young again, both physically and mentally. Old and young alike are in a great degree invigorated by the gentle breezes of life-giving spring. The farmer with his heart full of new hopes walks behind his plow and whistles a merry tune. What a thrill of delight springtime is! Truly it is en- chanting! It gives new strenght to a tired and weary soul. Now, in fact, is sowing time in both nature and human hearts. You, young people, work persistently and indefatigue- ably and as a reward for your labors you will reap an abundant harvest. The majority of the people, doubtless, do not heed the good advice, which spring whispers into their ears. On the con- trary they live as though spring were to stay here eternally. But when fall approaches, when the trees become defoliated, when flowers fade away and the winds blow fiercely, then onlyare they awakened from their slumbering lethargy. Too late do they comprehend that spring has passed away and fall has come, but what have they accomplished during the eva- nescing spring in order to withstand the penetrating storms of the fall? SPRING. . 1.--' n this great universe changes are continually taking place. Day and night, winter and :f v summer, fall and spring change continually. ? fj'fVff' ' People, as a rule, are incessantly awaiting a ,rg change of season. In winter they long for ' summer and 1H.SLl1Tl1Tl914 foriwmter. Thus I- f they are ever discontentecl with the present and constantly hoping for something new to come. ln all climates spring, however, is the most beautiful sea- son. Especially is this true in those countries where the winters are very long and severe. Of course, it is very prolo- alole that there are some who do not quite agree on this. They may have very strong reasons for asserting that sum- mer, for instance, is far superior to spring. However that may he, there seems to be a general belief that spring excels 18
