A new junior high division was opened this ear to widen the field. The acts were varied and the c()in|ictiti( n was stiff. Banquets Belie iiig that experience is the best teacher, several students decided to recreate the times they were studying about. Members of the second and tliird ear Latin classes became Romans for an evening at tlic annual Latin banquet. Some enterprising seniors from Mrs. Sink's English classes donned Elizabethan garb and held a raucous feast. The young citizens of the short-lived neo-Roman state de 'oured paltr poultrv and imbibed vinum innicens inider the direction of a Caesar (Myron Shank) and Calpurnia (Jane Hymes) for a night. The English supped on roast beef and pork while being entertained bv court jesters, harp music (compliments of Judy Courtnev). and a skit of a take-off on Macbeth.

With the entrance of a new decade, a new cause arose that was clianipioned by tliinking people around the world. It was not space exploration, nor a world-wide election, but a fight to save the world from the poisonous products of man's progress that threaten to destroy the beautv of Nature and the ability of the seas and the land to support life. On April 22. 1970. a major portion of the student bodv and faculty of FHS joined the battle against pollution. In a symbolic campaign on this Earth Day, hundreds arrived at school on bicycles, or roller skates, bv foot or canoe. i h - m Earth Day 24
