The Schools At War Program Although the Schools At War program did not officially start until October 1942 the Findlay City Schools have had such a program organized and in effect since Decem ber l94l Since our schools have been par ticipating 1n the lunior Red Cross Serv1ce Program for a number of years this field quite naturally was the first field of service to be ex tended under the war program Our next step was setting up an organi zation for the sale of war bonds and stamps in the schools We immediately began to educate our teachers and students to the task ahead of us as a part of a gigantic war program This is done by means of staff and student meetings and a series of bulletins issued by the Su perintendent of Schools and the Na tional Defense Committee appointed by him These bulletins dealt with such subiects as the role of th schools in the national emergency obiectives of our national defense program war bonds and stamps organizations and drills c1v1l1an d fense organizations etc Findlay 15 a city of about 22 OOO population lt IS largely a farming community with many retired farm ers and oil workers l1v1ng w1th1n our community itself We have a few industries such as the Master Tire and Rubber Company the National Refining Company Buckeye Traction Ditcher Company Smith Brothers Manufacturing Company Remmg ton Arms Manufacturing Company Hancock Bnck 61 Tile Company and the main offices of The Ohio Oil Company Many of these plants are now doing war production work We have twelve schools one schools and nine elementary schools with a total enrollment of 3500 for the current school year Our students have been intensely interested in our Schools At War program and are to be congratulated on the fine piece of work they are doing It speaks Well for the citizens of tomorrow TWENTY FIVE , I I I I I - I I I - 1 v L 1 ' ' I I .'
