The Junior- Senior Prom, the biggest job for the Juniors, was a success this year and was enjoyed by all that attended. Work on this big event went on all year and kept everyone busy. The funds for the Prom were raised through the refreshment stand at all home football games. Almost all the class participated in this and made plenty of money for the Prom. The juniors and Seniors set a precedent this year by having a dance for both classesg although it was the first time this had been tried, it was a huge success. The juniors of '55-'56 had a very successful year and all were proud to be members of our class. We intend to do this by co-operating with one another in class and school activities. Our class project which we started as freshmen is one of the things that is bringing us a feeling of class unity. Our project is a collection of pictures of class activities and groups. We hope to develop the pictures into an album. Working with us and responsible for a large part of the success of our class for the past two years have been our counselors and advisors. We want to thank them for their time and effort. We know that with the start we have made and the momentum we now have, the class of '58 will continue to work together for the next two years as it has in the past, and so our goal will be achieved. LARRY EDWARDS President ,ww And away we go! The bus-riding Freshman class officers are: Susan Knight, Secretary, Mr. Knight, Ad- visorg Nancy Brooks, Vice Presi- dentg Roger Shaw, President. FRESHMEN In this, our first of four long years in F.U.H.S., and, as lowly freshmen, we have acquainted ourselves with the surroundings of our school. We began our first year of participation and being a major part of our school by contributing to the good of F.U.H.S. One of the highlights of our freshman year was our first Christmas Formal, The Snowman's Frolic. We presented an outstanding class assembly and had a successful class party. We feel that it is important to have something to reach toward, and so our goal is to hold high the standards of Fillmore High. As we still have three years left, we will try to improve ourselves, our class, and our school as those years go by. The Class of ,59 7' r a 'ffm' -f-'Ss y 25 i 3 . GTRLS' LEAGUE BUARD The Girls' League is an organization which in- cludes every girl in high school. Its purpose is to draw the girls of the school closer together as one group so that they may have good iimes together, as well as accomplish worthwhile proyects. This year the girls started school off with an assembly, welcoming all new girls. This was followed shortly after by a Girls' League Regional Convention in Santa Maria, to which many girls were invited. During the Christmas season, the Girls' League collected canned foods and toys for needy families in the community. Besides the projects and programs, the Girls' League sponsored a Queen of the Month where one girl from each class was chosen by the entire school to be queen for a month. In March of the school year the Girls' League sponsored a Hearts and Flowers dance which al- most everyone attended. The Girls' League Board wishes to thank every girl in school for helping to make Girls' League what it has been this year, for without the coopera- tion of every girl, there could not have been a Girls' League. This year Fillmore has the honor of being the presidents school of a two-state organization as our advisor, Miss Smith, is president of the Girls' League Advisors' Association of Southern California and Arizona. In November 1926 Fillmore High became a member of the California Scholarship Fed' eration when a charter was granted to Chapter 138s. The chapter is open to 10th, 11th. and 12th grade students who qualify according to scholastic standards prescribed by the state. A student becomes a Sealbearer when he has been .1 member for four semesters, one in his senior year, and is then eligible to wear the CSF lamp. A gold seal is affixed to every Sealbearers diploma, to his permanent office record, and to all transcripts of his school record. Such distinction, five members of the class of 1956 earned at the end of the first semester of their senior year. Late in the year the chapter members of both semesters celebrate Honor Day by taking a trip to a place of an educational nature, and then in the evening attend one of the light operas or stage plays of note. ,,,.....e Ugly! fs- ,4' C1 '17 uf , V f an 6 L.. . To give of your all from start to finish and to enjoy every minute of it is truly a measure of success. This year's squad certainly can feel that it won the championship from this standpoint. Fielding a team composed primarily of juniors and sophomores, the squad felt a lack of experience. Although this meant tough going this season, the experience gained will certainly make its presence felt in the future. LL MANAGERS - joel Dunn and Pete Cervantez. BASKETBALL CAPTAIN JON BALDEN COACH KED CREED Winning seven and losing nine, the Fillmore B's had one of their better years in 1955-56. After uchalking-up five wins in a row, injuries and sickness to key players caused the smooth working machine to falter. Many of the losses were by five or less points, with the issue in doubt to the end. The outstanding thing about this team was its fighting spirit-the boys never gave up or quit trying-even after the unfortunate gym class accident in which Larry Edwards broke his leg the boys battled into a double overtime before losing 52-50 to Santa Paula. Outstanding players were Capt. jon Balden, Larry Edwards, Paul Casas, Dick Palmer, Orville Neal, and Art Preciado. ,f ii :':'::' W ' JW ,Has -, . V' 'i , ,bgy Q ' N , s J . The ceremonies began at the halftime of the Fill- more-Santa Paula Football Game. A procession of decorated cars, representing the school organizations, moved slowly around the track. Each princess rode in a separate car and the Queen, Charlene Howard, and her escorts terminated the procession. The Queen and her court was presented to the spectators in the center of the football field while the band played The Sweetheart of Fillmore High, sung by Nance Hodges, At the after-game-dance, in the Memorial Build- ing, the Queen and her princesses were escorted to the throne. Charlene was crowned by Gary Haley and Lester jones, the co-captains of the football team. The entire homecoming ceremonies ended with a waltz for the Queen, her partner, and the princesses and their partners. H QM E C CDMHNCE Participating in the crowning cercmony are: Sue Vest.
