1973 CREST Fillmore Central School Fillmore, New York CONTENTS Dedication........................... Seniors.............................. Faculty-Administration............... U nderclassmen....................... Organizations-Activities............. Sports............................... Elementary........................... Advertisements....................... Senior Activities.................... 2 9 31 37 53 83 103 123 141 Reflecting upon our school experiences we always seem to stop and remember particular people. The ones we espe- cially remember are those who dedicate long, tiring, and sometimes endless hours to help us make it as students. This year we would like to recognize a person who is special to us and for some years has helped many students enjoy leaming--and on many occasions brought smiles to our tense or discouraged faces. Many nights this person has sacrificed leisure hours to help us develop our talents and strive to put our best efforts forward. Because this talented person has devoted many years to making many students smile and to making our learning ex- perience more valuable and enjoyable, we would like to dedicate the 1973 CREST to Mr. Dale Miller. Mr. Papke has served our school for 25 years, and is retiring after having been a bus driver, general mechanic, and transportation supervisor. Mrs. Sandford, a second grade teacher, is retiring af- ter 26 years of service to our school. Mr. Williams is retiring from his custodial job at Fillmore after Mr. Lusk has been at FCS for 20 years and is retiring being at our school for 13 years. from teaching junior high math. 3 4 7 8 The Skeleton 10 A lonely old house on a small island is the possession of a suave and mysterious physician, Dr. Fer- sig, his sinister housekeeper, Mrs. Hubbard and her deaf-mute son Ollie. Elaine Blair, her lawyer-finace, her mother, brother and sister come to look over the property she has in- herited. The old house is worthless, but Elaine and Dr. Fersig know that a large sum of money is secreted somewhere on the premises. CAST David Wells Barbara Irwin Debra Rhoades Dan Woolsey Vanessa Burgess Joel Prinsell Sue Yanda Andrew Talbott Kim Kleinspehn Eileen Newhouse Laurie Arnold Director--Mr. Bruce Brenneman Walks As the family spends the night in the old house, strange things begin to happen. Weird noises are heard; a skeleton walks through the dim shad- ows of the house; Elaine suddenly dis- appears. Bill makes a strange dis- covery which helps to unlock the mystery. The play was presented November 9 and 10 under the direction of Mr. Brenneman, and was a very success- ful and enjoyable experience for all who participated. 11 Washington As the morning of April 23 dawned bright and clear, forty sleepy but excited seniors boarded the bus and began the uneventful (except for an occasional house in the mid- dle of the road) trip to our nation’s capitol. On arrival in Washington they caught their first, but not the last, sight of bamboo, and that evening, on the beautiful Washington by Night tour, received their first, but not last, taste of rain. 12 and Williamsburg Early the next morning, the group left for Williams- burg, and after eating a delicious lunch in a bamboo lined cafeteria, visited historic Jamestown and Yorktown. Rain somewhat dampened their tour of Williamsburg the next day and the trip home was highlighted by a some- what abbreviated in and out” tour of the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington. This year's senior trip was certainly unique and none of those who went will ever forget it. Seniors FLOWER: Crimson Carnation COLORS: Crimson and White SONG: Lean on Me MOTTO: I shall pass through this world but once. If there- fore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do, let me do it now . . . for I shall not pass this way again. The Senior Class pro- vided a buffet dinner for Juniors and Seniors as well as fac- ulty and administration. A new format was used for the program which was held in the auditorium. The Seniors presented an enter- taining radio program in which their musical talent was displayed, prophecy, wills and gifts were given. 26 and Breakfast A highlight of the program involved the appearance of two avid bird watchers--Barb Irwin and Andy Talbott— who entertained the audience with taped Bird calls of many rare species found in the area. The following morning in Letchworth Park the ju- niors served a very early, but delicious breakfast for ju- niors, seniors, administration and faculty. 27 28 VALEDICTORIAN: Eileen Newhouse Baccalaureate was held on June 17 with the high school orchestra playing Trumpet Voluntary for the pro- cessional and recessional. The address was given by the Reverend Irwin Reist. Musical selections were given by the orchestra, and the Senior Choir, with the Senior Class Choir members singing I May Never Pass This Way Again. Following the service, a reception was held in the cafeteria to honor the parents of the seniors. SALUTA TO RIAN: Melinda Calhoon BACCALAUREATE SPEAKER: Rev. Irwin Reist COMMENCEMENT SPEAKER: Rev. Paul D. Walenta and Commencement Commencement was held on June 22 with the Senior Band playing the traditional Pomp and Circumstance . Rev. Paul D. Walenta presented a thought-provoking mes- sage, entitled, What About Tomorrow? and the vale- dictory and salutatory were given in the form of a dia- logue centering around the passage in Ecclesiastes-- For Everything There is a Season. ” It was a time of mixed feelings, a time of leaving the old and familiar and proceeding to a new and unknown phase of life. 29 Mr. Swartout, Supervising Principal. Reflections mean different things to each individual. To some it's a remembering, a look at the past; to others the results of meditation; to others a look at the future. Youth looks to the future with eagerness and antici- pation. Maturity looks back with memories and medita- tion. All are involved in reflection. Youth should acquire the reflectiveness of mature age, and mature age the eagerness of youth. This is a precious balance to main- tain. Reflections , the theme of the 1973 CREST, is most appropriate for all to recall their school days and look to the future for the school and their own lives. Leon H. After many weeks of hard work, under the direc- tion of Mr. Brenneman and Mr. Miller, the musical was presented on April 10-13 to capacity crowds. It was clearly a pleasurable experience for both audience and performers and will be remembered by many as a highlight of the school year. 42 of Music Maria Rainer Debra Rhoades NUNS’ CHORUS Sister Berthe Ruth Yanda Sister Margaretta Dorothy Nelson Kay Dominguez Vicky Grant The Mother Abbess Laurie Arnold Wanda Gillette Sue Yanda Sister Sophia Sue Eltscher Terry Oliver Dawn Mueckl Captain Georg von Trapp David Wells Holly Willett Roberta Stevens Franz Dan Woolsey Martha Yanda Kelly Devlin Frau Schmidt Jayne Arnold Sandra Lapp Eileen Newhouse Liesl Sandra Talbott Lola Alderman Friedrich Mark Roth Louisa Joanne Cooley ORCHESTRA Kurt Ken Hammond Brigitta Penny Wilson Georgeann Dubell Audrey Smith Marta Susan Hammond Ann Hopkins Cindy Wilt Gretl Pam Smith Cheryl Alderman Melinda Calhoon Rolf Gruber Mike McGlynn Lisa Brown Barbara Mullen Elsa Schraeder Carol Alderman Nyela Basney Julie McNiel Max Detweiler Jim Fegley Christine Norton Petra Lilly Herr Zeller Norman Gayford Sheryl Kingdon Norva Smith Frau Zeller Cheryl Evancho James Stevens Nancy Talbott Baron Elberfeld Mark Lind ley Frau Elberfeld Valerie Roth A Postulant Jennifer Mills Admiral Von Schreiber Duane Newhouse Fraulein Schweiger Darla Bentley Trio Sue Krause Esther Schultz Cheryl Roloson Neighbors: Brian Smith, Sue Krause, Duane Newhouse, Marlene Vosburg, Ron Arnold, Cheryl Roloson, Dan Nor- ton, Darla Bentley, Esther Schultz, Bernard Fancher. 43 FIRST ROW: C. I also remember this ex- perience as a learning time, a time to work with others and to accept responsibility. I am grateful for the help of my advisor, Mrs. Hold; for the time and effort extended by Joy Smith, business manager; the photographers and editors; and for the pa- tience and cooperation of the faculty and student body. I hope that the 1973 CREST will serve as a meaningful and lasting memory of a great year at FCS. Melinda Calhoon Editor-in-Chief (Oaflfio rL U4 M2
