v c i v7v ;fyaAm n Presented by the CREST STAFF FILLMORE CENTRAL SCHOOL a Fillmore, New York Principal’s Message Congratulations to the CREST STAFF for another fine yearbook. Also, our heartiest congratulations to the seniors in whose honor this book has been published. As you go out to face today and the future, may this book be a warm tie with the past. The world we live in at times seems to be in danger of falling apart. We find our- selves in the midst of events that jeopardize our whole way of life. We cannot avoid these changes and we must face each day as it comes. A simple phrase may help us: 1 ‘Keep Life Contemporary This means simply to act in the present, forsake the unpleasant past, carrying with us only our pleasant and joyful memories and avoid pointless preoccupation with the future by planning prayerfully for it. Only then can we face the present with assurance. 2 Leon H. Swartout Supervising Principal MRS. VIVIAN LAPP Dedication This year’s Crest staff is very proud to dedicate the 1965 Yearbook to Miss Marjorie Main and Mrs. Vivian Lapp. Both have contributed most of their lives to helping and understanding young people. Their guidance and interest has helped many a student over 3 the rough spots. The Crest Staff and the whole school sincerely give their thanks. Well Always Remember Remember the first day of school when we greeted old friends and were assigned to new classes? Soccer started soon after the beginning of school and we'll never forget the rain and mud. 4 Then with the approach of winter came the basketball season. Tense with ex- citement, we cheered our team on. In the midst of all this came the much anticipated Christmas vacation and the Grade Christmas play. After a social whirl of parties we returned to the old grind. In no time at all the sec- ond semester had begun and we could say that half of our school year was be- hind us. 5 All of a sudden it was spring. Students began cramming for final exams. The prom Committee was appointed and a theme was chosen. At last the big day arrived. Summer vacation was finally here and the only people left in the school were the janitors, cleaning up. With all of the confusion and excitement behind us we looked back over a year WE'LL ALWAYS REMEMBER. 6 g| miAU.UI Acti'ulti'es THE- CAST Katrin.................Anne Kolakowski Mama.......................Linda Smith Papa...................Stan Adamowich Dagmar.................Cathie Beardsley Christine .....................Julie Mills Mr. Hyde...............................Jim Snider Nels...................................Jim Davis Aunt Trina.................Betty Jo Hall Aunt Si grid ..........Cathy McCarthy Aunt Jenny.................Glenda Cook Uncle Chris................Steve Crosby Mr. Thorkelson.................Brian Smith Dr. Johnson...................Dwight Folts A scrubwoman............... The invitations were issued by none other than the President of the United States, our own Betty Jo Hall Folts. I eagerly awaited the return trip to Washington because I had lost contact with many of my classmates and several of them were now nationally known--for one reason or another! On the morning of April IS, my husband and I left Fillmore for the trip to D.C. My title now is Pro- fessional Organizer of Pajama Parties . During these parties my dear husband stays upstairs with the six kids. We received an invitation from Dale Guilford to stay at his estate during our visit to D.C. Dale's mansion located in Washington Hills, an exclusive parking place for teenagers which he established and is toll collector. He seemed to receive much experience for this position on Dugway Road! As we were driving through Maryland, we passed an unbelievable large farm. When we approached the main entrance, we saw a large sign that read McCrary's Million Acres . Yes--Dana has most of Maryland under his control. Listed on the sign as Champion Pea Picker was Eugene Lilly. We reached Washington in late afternoon. As we were driving past the Puerto Rican embassy, we spotted Dr. Steven Crosby stepping from a limousine. My husband wheeled into the parking area where we chatted with Steve. He is a leading physician in Puerto Rico and is making the embassy his headquarters while in Washing- ton. Since it was time for supper, we decided to go to our favorite cafeteria --Sholl's--a few blocks from the Burlington. To our surprise it was renamed-- Brown's Burpatorioum --named after its founder, Jim Brown. Working as head cook was Margaret Wolcott who has a full time job keeping Jim from eating up all the profits! Before going to Dale's estate, we went to the Burlington to see if any of our classmates had registered. Pres. Folts had arranged for all her former classmates to stay at the Burlington free of charge. Just as we were entering the hotel, a taxi drove up and out jumped Margie Walradt in her stewardess uniform. She had just flown in from the Baha- mas and was muttering something about wanting to get her sticky fingers washed! !! We looked at the register and saw that Mr. and Mrs. Warren Jeffords had arrived. We were relieved to see that they had finally gotten married. We called their room and Jackie yelled-- Why don’t you try to climb up the rain spout? We decided to try the stairs instead. Warren was now a top man in the navy and Jackie was starring in the TV spectacular--NOTORIOUS NURSES. The professional consultant for her program is Maryanne Wigden, now chief of staff at Walter Reed Hospital. As we approached the elevator to go back downstairs we hear a great deal of com- motion behind us. We turned around and saw Mr. and Mrs. Jim Wolfer--the former Linda Smith. Linda was still playing Mama, but in a real life role with all her little Wolfers . When we reached the lobby, it was swarming with pressmen and photographers. We were thrilled to see Miss America of 1975 in the center of the crowd--our own Cathie Beardsley. She We thought the city we saw read-- Gerald teeth. We Nook. We Darlene told us that her winning act had been sign painting! that it was time to find Dale's estate. As we drove through a huge white gleaming building with a sign in front that Prentice - Dentist - Specializes in the repair of front also passed a very imposing structure that was called Mauerman's Book stopped to see if it could possibly be true--and--yes--there was looking much like she did 10 years ago in the FCS Bookstore. 39 When we reached Dale's estate, we were happy to find that he had also invited Gary Bernard to stay with him. Gary is now head coach at Cortland and has gained world recognition for the famous pick-up he gives his players before a game--puma juice tonic! ! After a hearty dinner, we decided to see some of the sights we visited on our tour 10 years ago. First we visited the Wax Museum where we were surprised to see that the figure of Liz Taylor as Cleopatra had been re- moved and in its place stood a striking replica of Pat Cleopatra Fiebelkorn. As we were leaving the museum who should walk in but Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hill--the former Sue Rees. Bob is now manager of RG E in Rochester and Sue is very busy with little sparks all over the house! ! We had planned to go on the Potomac River cruise so that was our next point of interest. As we drove past the White House we noticed quite a disturbance at the front gate. We realized it was some type of demonstration led by Marilyn Paulsen. Whoever thought that cheerleading at FCS would lead to this?? She told us that her assistant, Tom Perry, was having a sit-in demonstration at the Capitol since he had gotten so much experience sitting in! !! ! On the way to the boat we decided to stop by the Lincoln Memorial. There was a group of Seniors on a tour and we heard a most has become the na- ary including that one of the Cathy Mc- We finally mate, Jim Davis. He keeping away from Senior familiar voice giving the guided tour. Soon we saw Lynne Mills who by now tion's foremost tour guide in D.C. She has even written her own diction- such colorful words as puma , grundy and spastic . She told us highlights of her tours is a visit to the Washington Monument where Carthy distributes canes to all those people with sprained ankles, reached the boat and were greeted heartily by our former class- was managing the boat tour although he did have a rough time girls who insisted on latching onto his arm! We kept wondering during the cruise if we would see any other former classmates and sure enough--along came Don and Marilyn Gross. Marilyn was completely engrossed with Don--even after a gross of children! How gross can we get?? While on top deck we peered over the rail and suddenly we saw a sign floating down the Potomac--reading Welcome To Washington . At the time I thought Gary and Dale seemed a little on edge, but of course they couldn't have had a hand in it! !! As we moved down to the second deck, we noticed a crowd of people in one corner. As we inched our way into the- center, we saw Jim Snider, the Champion Euchre Player of the World. He was so involved he couldn't even take time out to say hello! Soon the boat trip was over and we made our way back to Dale's estate. We wanted to get plenty of rest for the big class reunion at the White House the following evening. Pres. Folts had asked that all those coming from out of town meet at Hotel Burlington where a police escort would take us directly to the White House. At this point I was getting very anxious to see the remaining mem- bers ol the class of '65. The lobby was swarming with guests and soon we saw Mary Jo Shields--and it isn’t always easy to find her in a crowd! We understand she is teaching English in a high school in New York City and the board lias a bit of trouble with her because she insists on teaching only Sophomore boys with bleached blonde hair! ! Also in the crowd we recognized Dolores Kar- pinski--but we never did catch her married name. she finally managed to leave home and move to Texas. There she met and married a multimillionaire and seems to be extremely We were thrilled to find in the crowd still teaching Phys. Ed. at FCS and we are having a hard time because she is can't take it. ith Mrs. Graves we were pleased to — chat with Mr. Brenneman our other class advisor and his charming wife Kathy. It seems that every time they move into a new house someone fills their hath tub with jello--and can you imagine Mr. Brenneman cleaning jello out of his tub!! happy. Mrs. Graves, our class advisor. She is understand that the girls in her classes teaching European style and they just 40 Soon we were hearing the wail of sirens and we knew it was our police escort arriving. At the head of the escort was Jim Armison, chief of the Washington Police. We whisked right through the city traffic and were soon ushered into the main entrance of the White House. Excitement filled the air as we greeted more of our classmates. Among the group was Doug Myers who has recently moved up from a forest ranger to Secretary of the Interior. Even though he is no longer a forest ranger, he insists on checking out the forest in Lost Nation every once in a while. Also among the group was Nancy Miller, Sec. of the Treasury. Serving as her assistant was Mary Herring since she had been such an excellent assistant at FCS; the Honorable Rob Wells, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court; Dr. Rosalind Snider, White House physician; Becky Smith, professional nurse-maid for all the Senators sonal sec- naut. It singing decided Dept, of die logical Back in the House children; Claudia Sylor, national 4-H leader; Donna Baker, per- retary to President Folts; Joyce Beardsley, first lady astro- seems that Joyce finally won first place in a talent contest Fly Me to the Moon and the Space Administration to take her up on it!’ Stan Adamowich was now head of the Health, Education and Welfare. Betty Jo decided he was choice since he is healthy, educated, and on the welfare, corner we recognized Brian Smith, now caretaker of the White grounds. Donna Baker told us that Brian still occasionally tries to hold Betty Jo's hand--mainly when he asks if he can borrow a quarter for his lunch! We also saw Fred Parks, now head of the FBI. We understand that his wife, the former Anne Koiakowski, takes his fingerprints every night to make sure that he hasn't been holding hands with anyone else. Suddenly the Marine Band strikes the rousing chords of Hail to the Chief and Julie Mills, the Presi- dent's Press Secretary, announces Ladies and Gentlemen--the President of the United States and the First Man!! Betty Jo looked stunning and the First Man, Dwight Folts, was attired in the latest, in a Paris tuxedo--a floor length version in midnight blue with a sparkling cumberbund and tie. After everyone had gone through the reception line, we made our way to the State Dining Room where a sumptuous feast awaited us. After everyone was seated, Pres. Folts said, Oh dear, Molly Snell asked me if I could find her a ride over here tonight and I forgot all about it. She is so busy managing the Washington Senators--I'll have to send my chauffeur after her and her star pitcher, Becky Voss. Following the delicious banquet and continuous flow of conversation, Pres. Folts asked the group to assemble in the East Room where Marilyn Hopkins, the official photographer in D.C. would take the group picture and then the evening's entertainment would follow. Betty Jo certainly outdid herself in arranging for a variety of entertainment. First on the program was Janet Smith, a renowned pianist who was in town for a concert at the JFK Center for the performing arts. This was followed by a humorous monologue by Martha Wigden who now has her own TV show, MARTHA’S MADNESS and really drives people crazy with it! ! The last attraction of the evening was a wrestling match given by the Professional Tag Team Wrestlers--Donna and Gary Wolfer. I guess they decided to turn their tights into a money making proposition. An added attraction to the match was the referee--Terry Preston. He was assisted by his wife Sandy who was in charge of bandages and blood transfusions. The evening was over all too soon and we sadly said goodbye to our classmates. As my husband and I made our way back to Fillmore we wondered what the class reunion would be like in another 10 years-- perhaps we could arrange to have it on the moon! !! 41 Athletics Reflections By Alan Keeling The season now is over, But memories linger on. I won't forget the players Or the victories that we won. There's Ronnie Mills, the hitter; Bruce Miller mowed them down. And rounding out the roster, Were Wigden, Robb and Brown. I won’t forget the highlights, There were many 1 could name. The skill of young Don Myers As he threw his no-hit game. But now the most outstanding. I'm sure the record tells. The hitting and the pitching Of the talented Rob Wells. The bats of Terry Preston, And Dana Thomas too; They surely were dependable And helped us win a few. He hit a strong five-hundred. The leader of the team. His hitting and his pitching Made him a coaches' dream. The fielding of our infield Was better' than before. The golden glove of Buzzy Mills Held down opponents scores. But it was as a pitcher That the legend starts to grow, With 23 scoreless innings, All lined up in a row. Three members of our infield Filled batter's hearts with woe. Our D P combination Of Ed to Butch to Joe. He gave one hit to Arkport, But the end came to his streak. When he faced without a day of rest, The bats of old Red Creek. The catching of Old Treadmill , Would dominate the scene. His calls were cool and steady The spark plug of the team. But the season was successful, Improved since years before. Our final season's record Was a healthy nine and four. The others on our roster, Played hard to win the game. There's Parks and Young and Preston, And brothers called VanName. The season now is ended. It all becomes a dream. But I shan't forget this season, Or my first high school team.
