“
the crest 1961 fillmore central school FOREWORD We of the Crest Staff’ who are about to depart as graduates of 1961 sincerely hope that in future years this issue of The Crest” will be a cherished memento of the happy years at Fillmore Central--a reminder of favorite classmates and of the wonderful hours outside the classroom. Most of us have been here for our four years of high school, now we must leave and step out to face a future that is very uncertain. In whatever of success or failure we may find ourselves in years to come, if we glance at these pages will lighten our labors if only for a single moment--we deem our yearbook wo rth while. Each event will be remembered--each student has made this year a year to be remembered. Some were happy occasions, and others sad, but they will always be fond memories. In closing we would like to express our appreciation and give recognition, to the members of the class of 1961 and the Crest Staff who have given their time to produce this yearbook. We hope you enjoy your Crest . The book was ours for a year, now it belongs to you. The Editor. CONTENTS SENIORS CLASSES ADMINISTRATION ACTIVITIES SPORTS ADVERTISEMENTS Looking for understanding, we could always turn to you: looking for encouragement, we found in you a friend: looking for inspiration and challenge you were our spark. We miss your radiant smile and sincerity at Fillmore Central, but you have our best wishes for a much deserved retirement. THE CREST STAFF CREST STAFF BACK ROW: M. Holland, D. Colombo, L. Gross, D. The choir worked hard this year and had a lot of fun. This year the Junior Choir sang a special number at the Christmas Program, participated in county and State festivals and the Spring Concert. We hope as the years go by the Junior Choir will become more active. 62 WE SING 63 FUTURE TEACHERS CLUB OF AMERICA BACK ROW: S. Main, R. Bennett, M. Bennett, S. Findlay, J. Foss, K. Sandford. The Future Teachers Club of America is a fairly new organization here at Fillmore High. The Club was started in the fall of 1959. The members of the club are given the opportunity to observe in the grades and they are assigned different projects by a teacher. Each member may observe a different teacher each month. This club is certainly a help to those who are planning teacher education. BACK ROW: J. Wolfer, D. Hotchkiss, L. Luckey, S. Talbott, Mrs. Oliver, Mr. Polaski, L. Cartwright, R. Schroeder. The boys have worked this year to get Varsity Club jackets. The jackets are green and white with the Club’s emblem. Presenta- tion of the jackets were made at the Honor Assembly. The Varsity Club was formed by Paul McCarty. Dur- ing the summer months of 1960, Paul came upon the idea of starting a Varsity Club. He developed his idea and formed the club. We thank Paul and give him our congratulations! INDUSTRIAL ARTS Industrial Arts is a study of the tools, materials and processes found in industry. The Junior High Basketball Team closed their season with an assembly game against Nunda. It was an exciting game with Fillmore being beaten only in the final moments of play. Our over-all season record of four wins and six losses is not really impressive; however, we did compete against larger schools. Our team did show, at times, a tremendous desire to work as a team. Individual players showed considerable improvement in the fundamentals of the game. 75 COACH—Mr. Donald Ehrhart. BASEBALL Even though the baseball days at Fillmore High were not too successful and despite the many minor injuries our team proved to carry on their reputation as good sports. 76 WRESTLERS LEFT TO RIGHT: G. Yager, B. Davis, G. Jeffords, E. Davis, B. Hill, D. Griggs, L. Evans, L. Beardsley, Mr. Shaw. The Fillmore Athletic Program has added a new sport to its list - Wrestling. The squad did consider- ably well when you realize their inexperience. Yager, Jeffords, Griggs, and Evans went to the county semi-finals and Evans emerged victorious. Lyle later lost the county championship in his weight class by a margin of three seconds. Fillmore had meets with Belmont, Alfred-Almond, Wellsville, Aracde. and Letchworth. All the graplers will be returning in 1961-62, and we are predicting a good season. We hope an interest will be developed by the students for the sport. 77 FIRST ROW—CAPTAINS: F. Green, V. Bennett.
