HISTORY Many years ago, when we were at the cute and devilish age of five or there abouts, we began our great experiences in the big brick schoolhouse here at Fillmore. Little did we know of what the future held in store for us. We were patiently guided by the gentle hands of our teachers for seven years, learning that K-A-T spells cat, that 1+ 1=3, and to read sentences like “See Dick go.” We all seemed to get along very well together, never causing any trouble for our wonderful teachers. (It’s a lie. So what!) In 1952, we graduated from sixth grade to Junior High, another big step in our lives. There was never anyone more excited or happy than we, or, more scared! We were really big shots now, sort of on our own. Our freshman and sophomore years were as thrilling as all the rest. We chose our majors and induldged in subjects which were to be harder than anything we had had, according to upper classmen. In these years the boys began J. V. sports and kids joined the chorus and cheerleading squads. Our J unior year was one in which we had to work together and make important decisions for the good of the class. One of our first important decisions was that Mr. Swales and Mr. Folts were to be our advisors. We then began our many projects to raise money to go to Washing- ton. During these projects we found time to decide on our class rings. The most delightful of our projects was “Swing Your Partner,” which was our Junior play. This year passed quickly because we were kept busy between keeping up our school work and earning money. Then all at once we were Seniors. At first it didn’t seem possible that this was it. For some this final year was a last minute rush to take the subjects we wanted, or needed. For others it was a year with less burdens. We took important position in clubs and school organization now that we were Seniors. We had a few money raising projects, but these few were very delightful and exciting. First was our Senior play, “Strickly Formal,” then came the night of our Acqua- marine Ball, which was our Senior Prom. A King and Queen and a court were chosen by secret ballot of grades seven through twelve. Then came our final treat of the school years--our trip to Washington, after which the night soon came when Mr. Haynes called us each by name and we stepped forward and received a piece of paper which was our ticket to the future. Thus we left the halls of F. C. S., in which we were given years of guidance and help by some wonderful people with whom we shared many wonderful times and experiences. Upon leaving the halls of F. C. S., we end the history of the Class of 1957. 12
