The preseason outlook was rather discouraging cone sidering the fact that only five lettermen returned from the previous year's conference championship team. As practice proceeded, several gloomy facts were evident. The aforementioned laclt of experience and the smallest turnout of boys in several years were the most obvious. The first game was played at Wfashington with VVilson starting what proved to be a long season. Despite the fact that Wilscin was outscored 13-O, the game was close. The team showed the need for experience. The following weeli, the Cyclones made their home debut. The team defeated Goldsboro 9-7 after trailing 7-O with ten minutes to go. These few minutes were probably the highlight of the year. In the next two contests, the Cycs were downed by Raleigh, probably the strongest team in the state this year, 24-6, and by Kinston, 18-6. In the next game, Durhams Bulldogs had a rather easy time as they intere cepted several passes. The final score was 37-20. XVilson gave lloclty Mount, the conference runners up, quite a scare, as they lost 157 in a game that was evenly matched, and the teamis defense had its fines night of the year. The two following liriday nights, Xtilson was handled . V , , . . . rather easily by both l'LIfCfiCXlllL' and XXllINll1gfUI1 with the results being identical Neo scores. lhe last two games were quite different. Cireenxlllt enlarged upon a 70 halftime lead until the final tally was 47-7. The next weekend, llaeford was giyen quita a contest before the Cycs bowed lb-7. Xllith iust a couplt of good brealgs, this game could haye gone the other way lhe season, recordfwlse, was a failure: but the team ylaycd better' than the record shows. lhe season was l il4e's first losing one, and it is hoped it will be the last 'lhe team was green and not large in number, but this was a rebuilding year, and prospects for a brighter futurt are good.
