Wil- Diver 'fied In the Diversified Uceupations Class, under the di- rection of Mr. Thomas Stott, the students are given the chance to learn a trade by doing. Each receives instruc- tion that is directly related to his job. Importance is placed upon personality development, employeeeemployer relations, job interviews, qualifications employers look for, the various taxes, and social security. Occupations represented by the D.O. students are such trades as radio technician, auto parts clerk, building maintenance, sign painter, cabinetmaker, dry cleaner, Hr. The Diversified Occupations club has undertaken projects, one being the concessions at football games. The club also gives its memhcrs a chance to explore their own interests and ahilitics in order that they can he sure of the decision to teach. luniors and Seniors who have as their ultimate goal the wish to hecome teachers make up the membership of this organization. The first projects undertaken hy the cluh this vear were participation in the Homecoming parade and assist- ing with the annual College Day, held Novemher ll. The junior rnemhers of the cluh acted as ushers and guided each representative to his post in the auditorium. The teachers' importance to the FTA. was made evi- dent hv the small gifts at Christmas and the refreshing after-school Coltes presented to them hy the cluh. VVith Mrs. Betty Abernathy, Mrs. Ella Beaman, and Mrs. Nell lligh as advisers, the Inernbers have enjoyed several outstanding programs this year. One interesting program was a tour of the bacteriof logical laboratories at the Eastern Carolina Sanitorium. This particular program stands out, for during this tour each memberls blood was typed. Moody, Howard, were a visit to a fallout shelter, a lecture on Chemical Development of Life by Dr. Peggy Newton from the Atlantic Christian College Science Department, and a tour of the Vvilson Industrial Center-here every lab was visited-from labs for the study ol' radio to those for repairing car bralxcs. hlueh interest in scientific development and oppor- tunities was created and enjoyed by the thirty-three meme bers of this club.
