SPANISH CLUB The Spanish Club is an organization whose main objectives are to advance in learning and to broaden in culture. The members strive to strengthen inter- national good will and gain more knowledge about the Latin American countries. The membership is made up of students who work toward bringing our southern neighbors closer to them and try to create a more friendly atmosphere. The membership of the Spanish club consists of sophomores, juniors, and seniors. A meeting is held twice a month during the school year and at Christf mas, a banquet is held, Everyone thoroughly enjoys singing Spanish songs and breaking the pinata, which contains various types of candies. As an extra means of raising funds, the members sold felt school pennants bearing the letters R.L.P. ILS. in blue and gold, the school colors. The Spanish Club is advised by Mrs. Kathleen Patterson and lklrs. lkliriam Dunn, a new teacher this year. SCIENCE CLUB Creating and furthering interests in science is the purpose of the Science Club at liilxe lligh School. illhis organization is affiliated with Science Clubs of America and under the supervision ol' lXlrs. Bettv Abernathy, Mrs. Ella Beaman, and Mrs. Nellie l ligh, the club has become a growing organie nation with an ever widening horizon for the future. At all of the meetings outstanding spealtcrs, with their fascinating lectures and dcmonstrations, have been thoroughly enjoyed by all the members. VVhen the first meeting was held, Mr. Bridgers from the Southeastern Besearch and Testing Laboratories discussed the uses of the calorimeter. Other out- standing speakers have been Dr. llaubrieh from East Carolina College, Dr. lXlcFarland, Dr. McCain, and Dr. Bill Clark, all of VVilson. Dr. llaubrich intrigued the audience with his discussion of genetic progression. Dr. lXlcFarland and Dr. McCain dis- cussed the effects of alcoholism. Dr. Bill Clark tallied about the broadening fields of work in the medical profession. Certainly this club has been worthwhile for the members and its activities will vibrate in the memory.
