FOREVVORD A satellite is thrust into orbit. A rocket reaches the moon . . . Live monkeys leave the earth in a nose cone and return safely. Scientists lay plans for space stations. Astronauts prepare seriously for trips to the moon . . . Two great powers fight for superiority in the race to conquer space . . . The earth shrinks and the stars seem closer. Suddenly . . . whether we like it or not . . . we are plunged INTO THE SPACE AGE. Education is changing because the times are changing. New courses are found in the curriculum. Old courses take on added significance. There is an academic state of urgency as the schools seek to improve the teaching of science and mathematics. The gifted student is raised to a place of distinc- tion, and education is striving to pro- duce the scientists, engineers, and tech- nicians needed as we move forward in our QUEST INTO SPACE.
