Carterffiuilly? NOT MP' BUT WWE We had always heard that the sum ot all the parts equals the whole, hut we never iielt hetore that we were con- stituents ot that sum. Now at last we lcnew ourselves to he a part, perhaps a minute one, hut none the less, a part. We found that when we expressed our views, they were heard. Vvhen we dislayed talent, it was ohserved. And hest ol all, when we showed prowess on the athletic field. we were cheered.-cheered hy our team mates, who, were. perhaps, striving lor the same positiong cheered hy specta- tors who felt themselves part ol the team and ol whom we felt a part: cheered hy ourselves tor at last heing ahle to show how much we wanted to helong to the whole. The work was hard, hut the rewards tar greater F- re- wards in the form of applause, rewards in the form of con- tidence, and rewards in the torm oi progress. Nlaterial re- wards were secondary, hut gratifying. When our team won a championship. we were overwhelmed hy the tact that we had helped. Not any more, hut Uvvef, When our Form had a project to do, we were amazed to find how little the individual mattered and how very much the group did. lndividually, whether we swung a hammer, spolce a dramatic line, or controlled lights, we did not, perhaps, feel highly talentedg hut the sum of the parts, our festival, was a huge success. It was strange that our geometry class was not the only place where we had a proof of the theorem that tithe sum ol all the parts equals the whole.
