The objectives of debating are: to train students in research, analysis, sound argument, quick thinking and effective extemporaneous speaking, to make maxi- ta Q, mum use of the school and community library, to emphasize team work, to stimulate flexibility and independence of thoughtg and to teach good humor in delivery and to learn to establish the validity of all quotations. ,fn 4 The purpose of the speaking contests is to encourage public speaking which is conversational in delivery, original in thought, and interesting in presentation.
