MPORTANCE OF SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS Without a working knowledge of mathematics, a person cannot get ahead in any type of work. Alge- bra and other high school mathematics are used by the factory worker, the technician, a.nd the business- man. More advanced mathematics is needed by the engineer, the physicist, the chemist, the biologist, and the psychologist. One field of mathematics that is becoming increasingly useful is statistics, which is used by business and industry. At Fieldale High School, we try to get a foundation in mathematics that will carry us to success in our chosen careers. Mike Tilley uses a compass in solving a math problem. Wanda Hutchens, Larry Goss, and Richard McBride strive to improve their reasoning power through a study of geometry. i 121.42125Efft75fi?44fY2e2N5iFQ3lq'N,

THE SPUTNIK AGE STRESSES THE Science is very important during these lightning changes of a changing World. The department here at Fieldale High School has joined the pace by develop- ing an habitual reliance on openminded study of es- tablished facts, to rouse the students to inquire, to encourage them to explore, to develop an interest in all living and non-living things, and to create a con- structive attitude for the good of mankind. Mr. Rakes's body enables biol- ogy students, Peggy Duniord, Jimmy Crawford, Larry Beheler, and Betty Turner, to understand the wonders of the human body. Something is sure to happen when Linda Tilley Gloria Shelton, Terry Martin, Bill Lucas, and Bobby Joyce conduct an experiment in Mr Reece S chemistry class. sf'
