Effort is made to help the students meet life situations realistically and to handle those situations successfully. In the mock convention Mike Eanes cam- paigns for Vice President of the Demo- cratic Party While Wanda Hutchens and Pat Lakey give the campaign cheers. Much of our wheat is grown in this area, explains Benny Via to fellow class- mates, Marilyn Turner, Donna Stegall, Donald Lackey, and Betty Kirks.

STIMULATE INTEREST IN VARIOUS FIELDS Our English Department endeavors to develop in each student the ability to communicate effectively through reading,writing, speaking, and listening. The English program aims to instill in each pupil an appreciation of literature plus a thorough knowledge of fo r m al grammar. Fran Dalton and Mike Joyce prepare films to be shown as a vital part of English class. Carolyn Brown explains the importance of the Globe Theatre in Sha.kespeare's plays to Louis Eanes and Regina Baker. Senior English students create charac- ters to bring Chaucer's England to life. Under the watchful eye of Mrs. Rives, Connie Tilley diagrams a sentence to explain the predicate adjective to Eugenia Barnes, Marilyn Turner, and Jenna Lou Compton. pf' in f
