OUR RIGHT TO CHOOSE We become accustomed to this American Right to Choose. We can choose which one of many kinds of automobiles we will buy. Same way with refrigerators, radios, television, furniture, houses, and babybuggies. We can choose which grocer to whom we give our business, which butcher, newspaper, magazine or smoking tobacco. We can choose our wives, our jobs, our church, our President. There is even a choice of which under- taker will bury us. This Right of Choice is more thanan interesting sidelight on life in America. It is bothacause and a result of the way business and industry operates. It affects our jobs, the way we invest our savings, our stan- dards of living. This Right of Choice makes business, sometimes breaks business. It keeps us on our toes. It keeps prices low, quality high. It prevents monopoly. It is largely responsible for the high standard of living of Americans. It results inasystemthat keeps our economy alive, our jobs modern, our income high. It's our American Way of Life. You can call it the Free Enterprise System, Free Trade, or Competitive Capitalism. But it depends upon our individual Right to Choose and decide for ourselves. It is a right we must never lose.
