In that dream I saw my ' classmates as they will be in the year 1975. ,QSM Bill Inman and David Bynum were still trying to get out of Miss qflafd Hoover's senior literature class. Jim Leonard was doing a good job of sweeping the sidewalk in front of Maxie's, while Jerry Wat- son was inside chalking cues. Doretta Bluejacket Karns was the 'Nv- owner of the Casa Del, and she was billing Marcia Hall as the star bubble dancer. Johnny Jordan was Cornel Wilde's stand-in in - Hollywood. Ted Scherer wasn't there, but someone mentioned seeing him at Traxson's, holdinlgl down the job as head soda jerk. Richard Medley, the heavy weig t champion of the world, was there with the newest sensation since Marilyn Monroe, Kay Han- son. Richard credits his success to the work-outs he had in Keller's third hour gym class. Vicki Parker was head car-hop at the Westerner, and Bob Yates was the owner. That explains x why she has risen to such a high position. Gayle Ward was teach- ing a class for red-headed girls. The class is known as, How to Keep Your Temper and Keep Your Man. Glenn Carlile was the Chief of Police, and he had Shirley Speck workin as the Po- lice Matron. Glenn was still passing out gum to his griends. Jane, otherwise known as Dinger Walterscheid, was still putting pennies in cigarette packages at Claussen's Mer- cantile. Carole Gartner was demonstrating Packards on the popular television show, I Love Three Men. Dolores Montgomery was the star of this program. When I awoke from my nap I knew I would be late to the graduation exercises. After all my hard work to graduate from Field Kindley in three years, I just couldn't be late. I jumped out of bed, put on my cap and gown, and ran like mad for school. I knew I was late, but I didn't really know quite how late I was until I saw that Sally Duckworth and Jack Litty had already arrived. I knew that when those two got anywhere first, I was really late! .. ff riff 1- f 9 We, the senior class, being of what is commonly known as sound mind, do hereby establish this to be our last Will and Testament: I, R. C. Young, leave my efficiency to get m work done to Jerry Doop. We, the seniors of fifth hour choir, leave a ten pound sack of bird seed to Mr. Crow. I, Larry Downey, leave to join the other Wild Geese. I, Linda Graves, leave my scattered brains for Liz Littrell to pick up. We, Gerald Christmore and Gary Tongier, leave CoachCurrie1 to Alphonso Tate, Steve Davis, and Tony Grubbs. I, Fred Meek, leave by popular request. I, Barbara Bentley, commit my diet chart to Jean Smoot. I, Sue Ann McMillion, bequeath to Karen Kelso my ability to try walking down the hall like Marilyn Monroe. We, the senior drum corps girls, leave to the junior two-somes our lover's lane outside the drum corps room. I, Norman Hastings, leave my safe driving ability to Vicky Kilcoyne. I, Bill Inman, leave my flirting ability to David Seaton. I, ,fibxwfx Jerry Bradford, leave Miss Norfleet in peace. I, David Bynum, leave 2-3 ' NESS my speaking ability to Larry Spencer. We, the senior Tillies, take -'S 2 with us the best athletes ever to tread the halls of C.H. S. I, Car- 'F ,,. lene Greer, leave my spelling ability to Jackie Isham. I, Bill Q, ,.. One of these occur- ed at the annual reunion on Dec. Z9 when the present drum major, Roberta Belt, presented her baton to Shirley Hargis, making her the drum major for 1955-56. Next they traveled to Newton where they came through with the first place trophy win- ning over some of the best teams in Kansas. The third trip was to Topeka where they downed Mound ridge, Shawnee-Mis sion, Manhattan, Buhler, and North Kansas City before they were finally defeated by Garden City. At the Shawnee Mission tourney they beat six tough teams before they were defeated by Rockhurst. One of the highlights of the season was the Pittsburg tournament, December ll and 12, when they brought home another first place trophy. The district debate was held January ZZ in Indepen- dence with the Coffeyville team ranking third. 63 SEATED,LEFT TO RIGHT: Judy LeClere, Donna Waddell, Avanelle Ficklin, Mary Louise Scott, Iolinda Hurd, Lynn Hunt, Magada Alexander, Tony Grubbs. Their best year was in 1942 when they went through the entire season undefeated with four and two man teams, and took the State championship. In 1943, the team took second in the state and in '44 they took third. The team took the S. E. K. for six straight years up to 1953. Last year the four man team again won top honors in the S. E. K. John Charlesworth Coach The 1954-55 Tornado Tankers swimming team closed with a perfect season as they won all seven of their dual meets and another state championship - their 8th in a row which is a little short of phenomenal. The Tankers opened their season against Kemper Military Academy and won going away 60-6. Other victories included wins over such teams as Kansas City, Topeka, and the three Wichita teams. The win over Wichita East, in their pool, was the closest meet of the year as the C'ville boys scraped by with a 35-31 victory. At the end of the current season, the swimmers have built their string of victories to Z8 in a row. The last time they tasted defeat was when the seniors of this year were freshmen. This loss was suffered at the hands of Kansas City. The Tankers have also won 76 out of their last 78 meets. The Tornado team is going to lose a great bunch of swimmers this year. Seniors are Jack Litty, Larry Downey, Ted Scherer, Bobby Yates, Larry Trotter, Jim Lionard and Dick Seaton. Yates, Scherer, and Seaton, who have been the standouts for the past four years in high schoolg have set some amazing records: everything from home pool records to state records, and all-American achievements. However. Coffeyville had less material with which to work than in the past ten years when six league championships were won by the Tor- nado. The IQ54 squad opened the season against last years No. I team in the state--Arkansas City--and defeated them 6 to 0. Jim Leonard played an outstanding game at guard and was voted AP lineman of the week for Kansas. The Tor- nado elcven posted other victories over Columbus, Iola, and Parsons. The highlights of the home season was the game with the Pittsburg Dragons later voted the No. I team in the state for 1954. According to Coach Andy McClure we outplayed Pitt even though we lost the game. The outstanding men of the season were Dick Buster, tackleg Jerry Watson, tackle, R.C.
