This select group was organized in I9-ll to fulfill the need for a serving unit. The NVaitress Club serves not only the school, but the community. The present membership is -H. Mrs. Ken- neth Cape. home economics instructor. is the sponsor. Miss Thelma McDonald is the assistant sponsor. This club. neatly uniformed and expertly trained, has served on many occasions and is highly recommended. Apart from the work. each girl enjoys her task and receives valuable experience. The sophomores were given a coke party on becoming members at the beginning of the school year. ln return. they entertained the l9-17-48 Waitress Club girls and their escorts at a formal Christmas dance. Richard Gartner. 6'6 'Y 0' 4' 4' Under the new leadership of Nlarvin Riggs. a graduate of Kansas State College at Manhattan. the local chapter of the future farmers of America chose the following bovs to the tollowing positions: Alfred Schuetf. president: Donald Collett. vice-president: Dale lillison. secretary: Carl Rauch. treasurer: lfdwatd Gillette reporter: and Dale Hawkins. sentinel. The organization made several outstanding judging trips during the '49 year. A team composed of Harry l.ynn. Donald Collett. and Alfred Schuetf won first place in dairy judging and second in livestock judging at the state contest. This entitled a team made up of l.ynn. Schuetl. and Dale lfllison. to go to two national contests. the first heing a dairy judging contest in Vfaterloo. Iowa. lndividttal awards of silver and bronze emblems were won hv Alfred Schuetl and Dale lillison at this meet. The team as a whole received honorable mention. The second tourney was in Kansas City. where ffllison and Schuetl again received silver and bronze medals for ability in meat judging. The chapter was represented at Chanttte in a livestock judging contest. at Parsons in the li. lg A. district S. lf. K. dairy judging contest. in a general jttdging contest at lfmporia. at the district Black and Xk'hite contest in lola and at the state contest held in Manhattan where a select few weie entered. Among these Richard Gartner. and Harold Rogers were entered in the shop division of the contest. Allan Heath. Don De'liar. and .lack .lohnson were entered in the judging of livestock. dairy. poultry and crops. Two applications of Alfred Schuetl and Dale lfllison were sent to the state contest for consideration as the state farmer of lf!-Vi. ln adLlit.on to these numerous tottrnaments the local l'.l'.A. sponsored the annual district pottltrv judging contest in the Mclfarland Trade School. A basketball team was also organi7ed by the local chapter to compete with other chapters. Most of the games played were won. The members of the local team were: Joe Reardon. l.lovd Garrett. Bob Hepner. Richard Gartner. Allan Heath. .lim Miller. Bob Merchant. Dale Hawkins. Harold Rogers. and Kenneth Rovse, The officers of the local lT.f5.A. won a second division at the Ritual Contest held in Independence. The chapter operated a coke machine in the trade school part of the year in order to finance the organization.
