People who want to succeed. Those are the people of FHS. As you thumb through the pages of the 1982 TIGER, you will see not just the faces of the people who go to this school. You will see people setting their goals, challenging their goals, and reaching their goals. Be it through academics, athletics, or community and school services, the people of FHS do not wait for things to happen. They MAKE them happen. Therefore, whenever you look at this annual in the future, one thing will clearly stand out in your mind. That is that you and your classmates were the people who made the 1981-82 school year the best everlll Who This isn't touch football. Coach reacts to a play. Late hit. Moof??? Sitting on the job. eh? Homeworkaphobia! Homework, a word almost as bad as pop quiz,” is one of the oldest forms of student abuse known to man and teachers. When a student has reached his high school years, he can usually detect the symptoms of an upcoming homework assignment by his teachers' actions. These are some sure signs: I. The teacher asks, Are you sure you understand 2. The teacher is in an unusually cheerful mood. 3. The teacher explains the same problem six or seven times, when no one has even asked him to do so. 4. One accidentally finds a list on the teacher’s desk reminding him to tell the students to do pages 201 525 and problems 1-950 by first hour the next day. If you are the type of student who has better things to do (like clip your toenails), the following list of excuses was compiled especially for you. 1. My dog (or cat) did a 2 on it, and I’m waiting for it to dry. 2. We ran out of toilet paper. 3. Our furnace broke down, and we had to bum it. 4. My sister lined her bird cage with it. 5. I used it to roll a joint. 6. A martian came down in a spaceship and carried it 7. It’s in my car. and the garage door is frozen shut, so I can’t get to it. 8. I had to use my books to hold up the bed when the leg broke. 9. My mother mailed it off to my Aunt Penelope in Cambodia. She’ll hand it in. 10. I just didn’t feel like doing itl (Usually the last words ever spoken by a student.) this? off, Juniors Karen Kassen Beth Heidenreich Escort: Doug Allen Escort: Rory Dobbs Leslie Govero Escort: Todd Gurnow 1981 Homecoming Sophomores Bonnie Kmetz Escort: Randy Pope Nanette Mothershead Escort: Mike Santschi Linda Chipps Escort: Willie Hughes Queen Candidates Escort: David Smith Escort: Todd Standard People Who Have Spirit Little People Who Participate 16 FACULTY Mr. Robert L. When he leaves school at 4:00, his day continues with athletic events and various contests and meetings until late in the evening. Mr. Selinger commented, Because of the superb secretarial help, the job is much easier. Mr. Selinger wraps up every day determined to make the next better than the last. o Make Decisions People Who Make De Mr. James H. Templeton Assistant Principal Mr. Templeton’s primary objective is to deal with students in the areas of attendance, discipline, and athletics. He and Mr. Selinger concluded that they spend 560 hours every year attending and supervising extracurricular activities. Giving figures of school disciplinary improvements, Mr. Templeton says, I use every ounce of concentration and all the psychology I ever learned to get to the bottom of problems and not let them happen again.” Result: Improving education by resolving conflicts. 19 People Who Teach People Who Teach 20 igAi. . Sporting a 7-2 record going into the district championship game, visions of SHOW ME BOWL danced in their heads. Unfortunately, they ran into a fired up Hillsboro team that was seeking to avenge an earlier loss to the Tigers. They did get revenge as we came out on the short end of a 14-0 verdict. Communicate Learning to communicate properly with others will seem unnecessary to many students, but most realize that it will be of great importance in the years to come, even if proper grammar is not used in the job they obtain. Those who lack the proper skills to communicate are lacking one of the most important aspects of life. English is a part of life that can't be lived without. The English courses provide the opportunity to improve one’s speech ability, reading skills, and writing talents. English helps one to express himself and to solve everyday problems in relations with others. Since this is one of the most important ways of life, it would not benefit a person at all to fail to involve himself in such classes. Advanced courses such as Organic Chemistry draw the top students. 123 Learning what we are really made of is a little disheartening. m People We've got the beatl Expressing our feelings and emotions helps to make up what you are creating or performing and adds that little touch which cannot be duplicated by another individual. Words cannot describe the feeling of hearing a chorus or band song being sung or played perfectly, or the look of satisfaction on the director’s face when he knows they have performed to the best of their ability. In Industrial Arts, learning about electronics, auto mechanics, architectural drawing, and working with wood and metals gives us an idea of what kind of work goes into creating things. Each person has his own special talent, but being able to work in this area makes this individual unique. These classes aren’t open to just males, but are also open to the girls who feel that this type of work fits their God-given talent. Home Economic helps young men and women to experience the many activities involved in running the home. Learning to cook, sew, raise children, and establish family relations, aren't the responsibilities of women only. Govero February 10, 1965 - May 29, 1982 Although her time with us was shorter than we would have liked, Leslie will always be remembered for the many positive contributions she has made to her friends, her school, and her community. When we think of Leslie, we think of her friendly smile, her warm personality, her optimistic outlook, her kind understanding, and her many talents. She devoted herself whole-heartedly to whatever she attempted, never being willing to give less than her best effort. Her school activities exhibit a wide range of abilities and interests. In music she participated in Band, Chamber Choir, Concert Choir, and district and state contests as a vocalist, accompanist, and in instrumental ensembles. She was a two-year member of the Spanish Club, serving as President this year. She was a member of the track team, Varsity Club, and Pom Pons. This year she represented her class as a Homecoming Queen Candidate. She has consistently been on the Honor Roll. She served as Activities Editor of the 1982 Tiger.
