A Tribute Mr. Hord Byrd has been a teacher in the Festus R-6 schools for 10 years and has taught a number of different classes. He received his B.S. from Missouri University, having majored in Social Studies and minored in English. Mr. Byrd is a member of the Methodist Church, Civic Improvement Association, Public Library, M.S.T.A., N.E.A., C.T.A., and National Social Studies Council. He is a Student Government sponsor and past president of C.T.A. Mr. Byrd's hobby is golf. Mrs. Cora Dreyer has been a faculty member of the Festus R-6 schools for 30 years and has taught a total of 36 years. She is an elder at the Grace Presbyterian Church and superintendent of the Sunday School. Mrs. Dreyer is a member of P.E.O., past member of the Jefferson County Mental Health Association, past Jefferson County Easter Seal Chairman, and past member of Twin-City Community Chest and Y.M.C.A. Board. Other activities include past District President of Southeast Missouri Social Studies Teachers, past president of Jefferson County Teachers Association and acting principal in 1956-57, member of Jefferson College Planning Committee, Steering Committee Chairman for North Central Re-Evaluation, and is past president of Jefferson County S.E.M.U. Alumni Association, and Delta Kappa Gamma. Her hobby is traveling. 32 To Retirees Cynthia Swiger, secretary to Mr. Litton and the school counselors. Mr. Howard Litton has been on the Festus R-6 school staff for 27 years. After having taught at Festus for 4 years he left the school system for employment at PPG for 6 years. While serving in the army for 2 years, he took some business courses in the armed forces university at Biarritz, France. After teaching at West Plains for a year he returned to the Festus school and has served as counselor for the past 23 years. Mr. Litton is a member of the Methodist Church, Conservation Club, C.T.A., M.S.T.A., and N.E.A. He received a B.S. degree in Industrial Arts at Southeast Missouri State and a Masters degree at Missouri University. He did the required work to qualify for high school counselor at Missouri University. Mr. Litton's hobby is photography. Mr. R. Winthrop Johnson has completed 31 years of faithful service on the Festus R-6 school board. He attended more professional meetings at State and District level than any board member ever has. Mr. Johnson served as president of the school board for 16 years, and has missed less than six meetings during his 31 years as a member. •‘Wint” Johnson, as he is known to most people, is coowner of Tri-City Independent Printing, a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Chamber of Commerce, Missouri School Boards Association, is past president of the Rotary Club, and past secretary of Southeast Missouri School Boards Association. He also attended two governor's conferences on education.
