King Neptune The Annual Junior-Senior Prom was held Saturday May 15, 1965 in the Ralph B. Tynes Gymnasium. The theme, King Neptune's Court, was an underwater scene. As students entered the lobby, the words King Neptune's Court plus driftwood on the floor and mermaids on the wall made snatches of conversation heard through the previous weeks take meaning. Ferns Linde and Richard Cook promenade. Preceding the Grand March individual couples entered a scene which resembled the ocean floor. To their right, Jerry Algiere (King Neptune) was seated on a gold throne high-lighted by green sequin sea horses. A blue drape complimented the platform on which the throne was placed. Their eyes then focused on the far wall which had been covered with blue, paper draped with fish net, and sprinkled with a rainbow of fish. Re-entering the gym following the promenade. Seniors were pleased to know the success the juniors had with the ceiling, which was a cascade of blues. The twisted construction paper resembling waves added to the feeling of a real ocean. A sunken treasure chest filled with jewels and a boat added to the stage decorations. Immediately all eyes were drawn to the formals when the band began to play. Full skirted formals and semi-full were dominate, with bell shaped and empire waist being recessive. Bouquets of nosegays along with carnations and orchids proved to be most popular. A highlight of the evening was a skit entitled, Prom Troubles , put on by the Sophomore servers. After the intermission, couples slowly trickled out on their way to various after-the-prom parties.

Queen Crowned at Homecoming Dance Festus Homecoming dance was held in the gymnasium October 16, 1965 at 8 p.m. Festus High students, alumni, and guests danced to the music of the Esquires. At 9:30 p.m., the crowning ceremony took place. The queen candidates were introduced by Lee Evans. The candidates and their escorts entered the main floor forming a line through which the retiring queen, Gayle Callahan, and her escort, Herbert Bailey, entered first. The candidates were introduced with each couple marching through the line. The candidates wore full length formals for the ceremony. The girls dazzled the audience with beautiful hues of blue, yellow, pink, and white. The President of the F Club, Kenny Hill, announced Susie Carrow as the 1965 Festus Homecoming Queen. Before taking her seat at the throne, Susie exchanged her bouquet and she made her traditional bow to the retiring queen. Lee Evans introduced the queen Candida-dates. The retiring queen, Gayle Callahan, and her escort, Herbert Bailey, marched through the line formed by candidates.
