A supervised study meets every hour throughout the day and a study hall and library period meets from 8:00 until 8:30 every morning. An administrators workshop was held, October 10, with sixty administrators from this district meeting in the library. The library includes the book-stocks, the study hall area, the leisure area, the conference room, audio-visual and periodical room, two listening booths, Mrs. Holligan's office, the librarian's workroom, and the check out. Practical Arts Teach Boys Trades The shop area consists of three large rooms. The shop room is the only incomplete room in the new building. The boys often work around electricians and construction workers. The boys do not mind this, since they have a lot of new tools and modern equipment this year. In the drafting room there is a large office for Mr. Dugan. The shop room and metal room contain new tables, individual lockers, new tool cabinets, work bench, sand box, metal bender, sheet metal table, metal rack, rod bender, industrial washer basin, and soldering table. There is a small paint room, and ample storage space for lumber and other raw materials to be used for projects. Students have fun learning about electricity. Mr. Godwin guides boys for a future in metals. Mr. Clippard shows the boys how to use the tools of the trade. 49 Fine Arts Stress Culture The Art room was among the last classrooms to be finished. It consists of two sections divided by a half partition with sinks and cabinet space on the back side. On one side, special drawing boards, which are used for drawing and painting. On the other side are three tables to be used for posters, sculpture, and craft work. Miss Helen Hamilton, the teacher, is a graduate of Murray State College and took Mrs. Hinkle's place when she resigned because of ill health. The Mechanical Drawing room had not been painted when the pictures were taken. It too has adjustable desks and a very modern teachers drawing desk. Below, Mr. Robert Dugan—Drafting teacher. Johnny Ogden, Bill Rouggley, Diana Jones, Pat McNeil, and Ronnie Abrams work in one section of the Art room. Below, Tim Keen, Van Cox, and Harry Reynolds study in Advanced Drafting. 50 Susan Carrow, Brenda Markotay, Joyce Gansner, Gloria Barnes, Shiela Simpson, Joy Gansner, Kim Throp, Marilyn Burkett, and Ellen Carron participated in the Graduation Scene. Style Show Contributes to Senior Trip The E D Style Shop has sponsored the Festus Style Show for one decade. The students and teachers at Festus R-6 Senior High benefits from the show because they learn poise and how to dress and wear their clothing. Air Raid Space in Basement Area Clyde Hill supervisor of custodians, inventories cleaning supplies Llyod GrindstofF ponders next move Jack Sharp and Ralph Stites check unfinished electrical equipment Ed Bauman checks cleaning equipment Thousands of square feet of possible air raid shelter space is available in the new Ralph B. Tynes gymnasium. The l-shaped storage room, the long halls, and the small ante rooms could be adapted for an air raid shelter in case of atomic attack. This space with use of sandbags could be increased by hundreds of square feet. The hall in the academic basement and basement classrooms could be made safe enough to house many students. The basement is built to specifications that are set forth in a bill presently before Congress to reimburse school districts which build buildings which can meet standards they set up. It will probably be stocked by civil defense and be a designated shelter. Meanwhile the basement storage room has a large refrigerator and always contains lunch room food which could be diverted in case of emergency. A Well-Rounded A class dresses for phys. ed. Tynes Gymnasium, the proposed Junior College, and many other instances. The people of the community have also developed a new awareness of school functions. The businessmen and professional women have provided more financial support and interest in our yearbook than ever before. Through this continued interest the span of communication between the students and the people of the community can be broadened. To you, we say thank you. 116 CITY LOCKER CO. W. W.
