It has published a booklet called Rules and Regulations which governs its decisions and facilitates its work. This book states specifically the qualifications and duties required of teachers and administrators, the requirements for admission of students, the rules which govern their attendance and conduct their polices toward all matters which come under their jurisdiction. The Student Council of Festus High School has been very active this past year. They sponsored the retarded children drive and made a collection of canned food at Christmas. The committees were responsible for locker clean-up campaigns, helped to solve the parking problem, presented assemblies and the all-school movie, wrote a code of ethics, and had a public telephone booth installed. The Twirp Dance was held in February. It was sponsored by the Student Council. During the fall season, marching was high on the agenda, and many entertaining skits were presented at the half-time, on the field. Senior Mothers Supplement Senior Activities In the spring of 1958 the Senior Mothers’ Club was organized for the Sentor class of 1959- Many projects were successfully accomplished through the efforts of this club. Peggy Tynes, retiring queen, led the royal procession, escorted by Tim Buehler. The first candidate Beverly Nicholson, met Doug Bay, her escort. Eyes turned to the right as Sue Biehle entered with Jerry Lovelace. Susie Drake followed with her escort, Jim Schweigert. Next candidate Kathleen Kertz, met her escort, Mike Basler. Mary Ann Kertz made her entrance with Dave Leonard. Following was Wanda Fadler, escorted by Dennis Siebert. Entering next was Judy Huber with Bill Byrd escorting her. Last candidate to enter was Mary Beth Difani, escorted by Dick Eisenbeis. Linda Eoff, narrator, received the scroll from the pages, Donna Farley and Donna Glaze, and then revealed that Judy Huber would succeed the reign of Athletic Queen. The purpose of the Co-operative Occupational Education program in Festus High School is to provide practical experience on actual jobs for those students who have chosen the occupation they wish to follow after graduation. The success of this program is determined by the number of the students remaining in this class. In the past eight years 144 students have been enrolled in this C.O.E. program, and many are still working in the same occupation. At the eighth Annual Employee-Employer Banquet, the employers were guests of their employees. The school faculty and board members were invited to attend. The team won the conference, the sub-district and the District titles in 1958. Eighteen games were scheduled for the 1958 season but only 12 games were played. The other games were rained out and no opportunity could be found to make them up. Festus met Northwest for the conference title. Cleveland, who won the state title, defeated Festus in the sectional tournament. Memorial To Mr. And Mrs. Cox Is Completed MR. COX MRS. COX The Cox Memorial was built in memory of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Cox who passed away in August, 1956. Mr. Cox was principal of Festus High School for the two years prior to his death and Mrs. Cox was a teacher in the kindergarten of the Festus Grade School. This beautiful fountain and benches were the gift of the Class of 1957, interested patrons of the school, and the school board. Two bronze plaques will be placed on each side of the base. The inscription will read: In Memory of MR. and MRS. LEONARD A.
