SENIOR CLASS HISTORY The Semor Class of 1950 although the larg est ever to graduate from Festus hlgh school IS dlstmgulshed not because of 1tS slze but because of IIS many accompllshments It IS probably the only class to have more members m 1ts senlor year than ln 1tS freshman year Among other thlngs rt IS one of the few classes to have a member selected football queen ln her Junxor year and to have the same presl dent for all four years who was elected unanl mously 1n her sen1or year and also chosen by the student body as Txger Queen and by the basketball team as Basketball Sweetheart In the flrst semester of the 49 50 school year the class of 1950 had over forty percent of 1ts members w1th an average scholastlc achxeve ment of S or better Football entered FHS wlth the class of 50 and 1n 1949 the team copped the Mmeral Area Conference Cham p1onsh1p wrth ten semors as regulars m the llneup These are only a few of the many ac complmshments of the graduatmg class We Set a Record Largest Freshman Class tered upon the threshold of what would prove to be four exc1t1ng fun fllled and lmportant years of thelr 1lV6S They very dolefully sub mltted to the 1n1t1at1on by the sophomores The class elected as offlgers to carry them through the1r 1n1t1al year Trula Skaggs as presldent Vernon Roth as v1ce presldent and Coleen Col1n as secretary treasurer Frank Iddlngs and Mrs Carrle Manmng were sponsors Norma Koehler was selected as attendant from the freshman class to the football and basketball queens As Sophomores We Show the Freshxes Elghty two much wrser students entered FHS the next year Thls tlme lt was thelr turn to mtroduce the freshmen to hlgh school l1fe wh1ch they dld gleefully The 1950 class then selected offlcers to lead them through the1r sophomore year They were President Trula Skaggs vrce presldent Valle Pfaff and secretary treasurer Coleen Colm The sponsors for the class were Raymond Hoggard and Roy Clemons Dor1s Akms and Wayne Curtls were the sophomore candldates for camlval queen and krng Trula Skaggs attended the basket ball sweetheart and Joan Keyton was sopho more mald at the football crowmng Valle Pfaff and Marie Leon were chosen as cheer leaders for the pep squad How Dxd We Become Iuruors Already' Two years of hxgh school lrfe had already sllpped by and 84 men and women were ready to venture forth lnto thelr th1rd year of high school Thls t1me Murrell Godwln Mlss Betty Jo Clyde and Raymond Hoggard were selected as sponsors Trula Skaggs was elected presldent Frank Slebert v1ce presldent Valle Pfaff buslness manager Bruce Hewltt asslst ant buslness manager secretary Marcella Kennedy and Lols Adolph treasurer A very successful play G1r1 Shy was presented Dons Akms was chosen as football queen Candldate for Leap Year Kmg was Jlm H111 Trula Skaggs attended the basketball sweet heart It was declded to have the Jumor Sen lor Prom and banquet comblned wlth the theme of Moonllght and Roses There were nme Junlors elected to Whos Who 1n FHS Dave Dean and Don Mahew were Junlor rep resentatrves to Boys State and Carolxne Dean to Gxrls State Elghteen Junlors were lnstalled ln the Honor Soclety Dons Akms Gerry Schrum Valle Pfaff Norma Koehler and Marle Leon were chosen by the student body as cheer leaders At Last We Are Mature Semors the Class of 1950 enrolled ln September of 1949 for what was to be the1r last year 'Iwo able sponsors Raymond Hoggard and Mrss Vada Branstetter were chosen for the all lmportant year Trula Skaggs agam led the class as presr dent Other offlcers were Vlce presldent Valle Pfaff secretary Marcella Kennedy treasurer Lo1s Adolph busrness manager Dave Dean and class hxstorlan Bob Edwards Fred Wlese was elected presldent of the Honor Soclety The Senlor Carnival was held and Dave Dean and Coleen Colm were crowned Carnlval Kmg and Queen A flnanclal loss was experlenced wlth the Chrrstmas Dance The football queen was V1rg1n1a McMullen and basketball sweetheart was Trula Skaggs Jlm Roblnson was elected captaln of the basketball team B111 Clark and Frank Slebert were co captams of the football team and Paul Pnmo was captain of the track team It was declded that the senlor class would make a seven day tour of the Far South for the annual semor trlp Valle Pfaff and Trula Skaggs were elected Tlger Kmg and Queen The class sponsored bake sales plcture shows chicken drnners and many other affalrs durlng the course of the year As the years go by, members of the Class of 1950 w11l always be proud of thelr class and of thelr alma mater whxch has prepared them for thelr future llves On September 3 1946 84 seniors-to-be en- Eightyseven happy' but yet sad' Seniors of
