About once every two weeks some- one on campus sponsored a dance, either in the Gym, the Main Track, and even a Military Ball at The Hid- den Valley Country Club, and Senior Dance at the Elephant Walk Lounge in Roanoke. Campus Pro- grams can take most of the credit for the dances on campus. The music varied from different bands, the radio station CFerrum's own WFCRJ, and even a video light dance. All dances were free to the students and were usually well attended. The selection of bands was superb, consisting of Top 20 bands, Punk, and Rhythm and Blues. The Voltage Brothers kept the night going at the Christmas Dance with their great selection of funk music and dazzling stage show. Standing Room On- ly, a top band from Richmond drew a great crowd and kept them dancing all night long. Other great bands were the Kings and States. - Iohn Bushnell A Kelly Shipe

ROAR OF SILENCEH PERFORMED AT FERRUM The Roar of the Silence, a minstrel-drama about race relations in Franklin County during the 1890's, was one of the highlights of Ferrum's first Winter Arts Festival fmore photos on pages 164-1655. The original play, writ- ten by Ferrum drama professor R. Rex Stephenson, is the story of George Ear- ly, a black man accused of setting the fire which destroyed part of Rocky Mount. Utilizing the combined techniques of drama, humor, and dance in a minstrel-show format, Stephenson manages to make a very serious point and avoids the audience discomfort which may have resulted from a strict- ly dramatic treatment of the subject. - Marissa Burton Q 'av' ' .4-, 0 A el: x 9 .. 5 -ut 'P .-, -t KM
