A tribute paid by Professor James Angle, Chairman of Humanities and former student at Ferrum, as he quoted from Stephen Spender, aptly described great men such as Dr. Arthur, Born of the sun they traveled a short while toward the sun and left the vivid air signed with their hon- our. He built 'on the crumbling foundation of a small school in rural Franklin County one of the leading junior colleges in the country. He asked for excellence in aca- demics, athletics, faculty, and buildings. In a larger sense, Ferrum is his monument, sound in stone and steel.
