INTRA- MURAL BASKETBALL Advisor ....... ....... E mma Z. Curtis Coach ....... .........,.... .....A N a nnette 1. Ehring Captains 12B-Eileen Hennessey 12A-Rita Sweeney 11B-Rose Scivoletti ' 11A-Stella Bogdziewicz 10B-Stella Kramkowska 10A-Helen Normando 9B-Helen Paszkowska 9A-Sophie Rezler After a most enjoyable season last year the girls have responded whole-heartedly this term for basketball. So great is the interest in the game that each class will be repre- sented by a team. At present it seems as if the 11A's and 9B's will be giving the Senior teams quite some opposition. The passing attack and defense work has shown great improvement and the girls have become adept at handling the ball. Even with such excellent players as ,Eileen Hennessey and Lucy Ciski, the Senior B team will have to effect some fast team work in order to overcome the opposition offered by their lower classmates. This group, with Rita Sweeney and Helen Bogdzie- wicz responsible for the scoring end and supported by Mary Chmielewska and Frances Zampella as guards, the Senior A team, should be able to lead the way in competition. The girls are practicing faithfully and are looking forward to a most exciting and enjoyable series of games. Page Szxly mne

TRACK AND CROSS COUNTRY Coach ..................... ....... J ohn Hickey FaCulty Advisor ........ ........ A lfred Devlin Track Captain .................. ....... V ictor Falango Cross Country Captain ...... ,,,,,,,. J arnes Zarowski Track Manager .................A..... .............. ,,,,.,.A, T h omas Damato Cross Country Manager ........................,,..,......,......,,,,,,,, Philip Kook The most meteoric rise to fame of any of the Ferris sports is the record which the track and cross country teams have established. Under the able guidance of jack Hickey, the excellent material which had given such promise the previous year blossomed forth and justified the praise which their mentor had accorded them. Captain Vic Falango and Lou Scerbo teamed up in the dashes, as they always do, placing first and second in the opening Port Richmond meet at Staten Island to win 44-33. The following meet marked the return of Memorial to track activity. But the Orange and Black of West New York picked on the wrong team to make their debut with for the Bulldogs were on their way to bigger things and they ran right through Memorial easily winning 67-24. So superior were the Ferris spiked shoe artists that they took first place in every event but the broad jump. The boys were picking up speed when they flew right past the St. Aloysius trackmen, breasting the tape a winner once again. This time the count was 59-22, Once again our team showed its clear superiority sweeping first places in all events but the 440 and the broad jump. The sterling performance of Falango, a dash man, Slodowski, a weight thrower, and Zarowski, a miler, who garnered twenty-live points among them featured the meet. The winning streak was briefiy interrupted with a 45-36 setback at the hands of Union Hill. However, the team came back strong to take a tri-angular meet from St. Peter's and St. Michael's by a large margin even going so far as to blank the St. Michael speedsters without a point. Lincoln was outrun in an exhibition meet. But Emerson put the dampers on the Bulldogs' title hopes by nosing out the Ferris cindermen in an exciting encounter which terminated the schedule. The hill and dale squad, a new team in Ferris sport annals astounded the scholastic track world by galloping their way to three victories and then losing a close meet at the end of the season. The harriers led off innocently enough with a 21-34 victory over St, Michaels. The following meet awoke all track mentors to the fact that the little school of Ferris had a team to be reckoned with when they knocked off Bayonne, the County Champions, 25-30. Adding insult to injury and at the same time showing the stuff ' of which Ferris men are made, Tom Hawkes, who was far ahead of the field, sat down and waited until jim Zarowski caught up to him and then the two ran a dead heat to the tape. East Orange was an easy victim as the Bulldogs barely missed a perfect score by three points, winning 18-37. A surprise upset by St. .Aloysius cost the team a perfect season. The services of Hawkes, who was out with injuries, were sorely missed, however, the smooth striding captain, Zarowski, took top honors. The score of this heart breaking defeat was 26-29. Cross country lettermen are Zarowski, Hawkes, Papick, Cassidy and Custardo. To coach jack Hickey is owed a debt of gratitude, for through his efforts he has placed track and cross country on a par with the other major ranking sports of the school. WILLIAM FLANAGAN.
