BASKETBALL The entrance of the Ferris Basketeers into the County Court League was a big step for a small school to take. Coach jack Hickey does not expect his team to burn up the League with outstanding victories, but then again, one cannot tell what the boys from Ferris will do. Last year the Bulldogs were no easy mark for any county team. None of the opposition would concede itself a victory over the Green and Gold until the final whistle had blown. The loss of many regulars, two highwscoring forwards, and two promising young guards has been a severe blow to the squad. Although they were not altogether too im ressive a ainst the o osition in earl ames, it ma be noticed that the oun and P S PP Y 8 Y Y 8 inex erienced bo s are showin marked im rovement as the cam ai n ro resses. P Y 8 P I P 8 P 8 At the center position, Neil O'Connell has proven himself a first rate pivot man, by virtue of his jumping ability, and his consistency in retrieving the ball from the back- board. Walt Dzitko, last season an alternate forward, is now holding down a post on the varsity. Dzitko, with his tall frame, should be a valuable asset to the team which was lacking in height last year. It is not necessary to introduce Vic Falango, forward, who starred on last year's team as a guard, and is known to all who saw his fast cutting and dribbling exhibitions last season. Guido Baratelli whose ability to slip the ball through the hoop from the foul line, is back again this year, fully recovered from the hand injury which he received during the football season. Bill Cieri, a new comer to the team, completes the varsity lineup. His speed is a huge advantage to the squad, and he has proved' to be a dangerous man whenever he gets his hands on the ball. Ike Venutolo, Ed Bartosowitz, Milt Lewis, Stan Rakowski, and joe Falowski make up the alternating unit. The Bulldogs meet teams which are the best in the county. Such sterling clubs as Dickinson, Memorial, Emerson, Demarest, Bayonne, Lincoln, Snyder and St. Michael's have to be met. As the season wears on, the team will be one which will be hard to beat. Coach Hickey has a wealth of junior material on hand which he will develop by next year or the following one, into a fine court aggregation. WILLIAM J. FLANAGAN. Page Sixty Jeven
