ARCHERY I rho! an arrow in Ike air. It fell to earth, I knew nal where. -Longfellow. Last year a group of students became interested in archery as an extra curricular acti- vity. With the assistance of Miss Curtis and with Miss Pickett as advisor, the Archery Club was organized. The technique of shooting was learned in the gymnasium, and later, contests were held out of doors. To the unskilled observer, archery may seem uninteresting, but there is a thrill to the initiate in the Hight of the arrow from his bow. We have no fear that this sport will not grow in popularity in Ferris. FENCING CLUB The Fencing Club was started during the Spring term of 1936 in response to many requests from students who were interested in the sport. Membership has increased con- siderably since last September and some of the members are becoming quite proficient in both foil fencing, and the use of the saber. The object of the Club is to give both boys and girls an opportunity to learn the art, to participate in fencing bouts for both physical and mental development, and for the enjoyment that fencing affords. This sport, which is comparatively little known in this country, is one that has a long and interesting historical background. It is a sport that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. It affords excellent training in nervous co-ordina- tion, bodily control, and also stresses the attributes of courtesy, fair play and good sports- manship. The faculty advisor of the sport is Mr. Keyes. Page I 1 ly three
