Iwrreua More players than ever in the history of the school received letters in football this year. Usually. the average is about 12 to l-1. but this year l6 hoys received this award. This year the team hroke even in the won and lost column. winning three and losing three in high school competition. Early in the season the Wildcats lost a close game to the alumni, hut throughout the season outscored our op- ponents 84-65. All-County selections for l937 were: ll. Mil- ler. first team halfliackg lf. Giulieri H938 Captain-eleetl, second team tackle: C. Chris- tiansen. second team centerg and H. Hansen, second team quarterhack. The team will suller the loss of an entire starting hackheld and several outstanding linemen. However. six veterans return to form a nucleus for the V938 squad. ln the hackheld only one letter man returns. Prospects ol' a good team next fall, built around a fast charg- ing line, are exceedingly hright. As no inter-scholastic program for girls is planned. inter-class games form the most important competition for girl athletes. The seniors won the basketball cup for the sec- ond successive year. They also smashed their way to the volleyhall championship. Hase- hall and soccer games were played off late in May. Competing in haskethall. volleyhall, tennis, hadminton. ping pong and soccer, the Roses team won the girls' intramural tournament. Four teams, made up of all girls taking physical education. vied for the championship Tuesday and Thursday noons. The winners received ten points toward their hlock F's. Ferndale girls took part in hoth the Humholdt State and Fortuna Flay Days. At Arcata Miriam Coomhe won the individual posture prize, and the school placed third in the group contest. and won hrst in song competition. For playing on a team. heing captain, or heing an athletic manager. girls receive points toward a lrlock F. Sixty-five points are necessary to hecome a member of the F. society. This honorary organization entertained new memhers at a progressive dinner and theatre party. This year's honor sweater was awarded to Frances Flowers for her four years of out- standing work. S. teams took both the lightweight and heavyweight games from Eureka. The unlim- ited squad walloped the Loggers 52-34, and the limiteds won 29-20. During the season, the Ferndale heavies won seven and lost four, while the lightweights earned the championship with nine wins and two losses, but lost their crown when a player was declared ineligible on a technicality.
