-...mn s l Dedication We, the members of the Ferndale Union High School, dedicate this Tomahawk to the success of the Shoreline Highway. Editorial Any advancement in transportation has been of vital importance to people throughout the ages. That is why the Shoreline Highway, which will be a great step toward the promotion of transportation, is such an important proposition to Northern California at the present time. The Staff has chosen this interesting pro- ject as the theme of the 1931 Tomahawk realizing the importance of the Shoreline Highway to this community. Humboldt County has vast agricultural wealth. Since cheaper and quicker transportation is needed to make its farm products more profitable, the Shoreline Highway will undoubtedly bring Humboldt County in closer contact with the great trading centers. The coastline of Northern California has long been known for its beauty. A highway running along this rugged coastline will draw tourists from all parts of the country. The cool breezy climate will be a boon to those who wish to escape the sweltering heat of the cities. The nature lover will find a paradise in the Redwoods of Northern California. The sportsman may enjoy fishing for salmon, trout, and many other fish which are to be found in its wellffilled rivers and streams. The Staff wishes to thank the members of this community who have supported the Tomahawk and the merchants who have acted as donors. We also wish to extent to Mr. Clabby our sincerest thanks for his untiring efforts as our faculty advisor. Mr. Hatch of the California Art and Engraving Co. and Mr. Smith of the Humboldt Times have done much to make this book a success. Sam Babcock of Webber McCrea Co., Los Angeles, was helpful in guiding us in our selection of an attractive cover. Much of the credit for the success of this yearbook goes to the efficient work by Lyle Thompson in getting donors. Scott Petersen and Ann Capaul were the star salesmen of yearbooksg Scott sold 43 and Ann sold 15.
