Lower right: Senior Dave Phelps makes sure that his measurements arc precise in Woodshop. The fine and applied arts department offers a wide variety of skill-learning opportunities. Through courses from arts and crafts to technical and voca- tional, the lives of each student can be enriched. The goal is to prepare stu- dents for whatever they will do when they leave Ferndale High School. Sub- ject matter and learning saleable skills are important, but the ability to be a good neighbor and contribute to the community is also stressed. Mathematics: Always calculating The 1981-82 school year saw the introduction of a new course in the Mathematics Department called Advanced Placement Calculus. Those students having taken algebra during the eighth grade are eligible for this course, and they may elect to take the advanced placement exam given na- tionwide during May. College credit is given to those who score well enough on this exam. Below left: “Flower Day” brightens up correcting papers for Mrs. Minncci.
