Pep . . . and all that jazz It’s impossible to think of games and pep assemblies — or even Friday mornings — without almost hearing that solid sound of the Pep Band blasting out “Rocky,” “The Stripper,” or “Fly High for Ferndale.” The talented and dedicated members of Pep Band spend a lot of extra time keeping our spirits up! New to the instrumental music program this year is the Jazz Band. This group consists of members from both Concert Band and Symphonic Winds. They also put in extra hours of rehearsal to share their talents at concerts. Above right: Pep Band Captains Paul Ferrero and Kandy Coussens. This year the Ferndale Bands saw changes both on the podium and within their structure. Under the baton of new conductor Ms. Debbie Vanneman, members of both Symphonic Winds and Concert Band had the op- portunity to participate in the marching band. Practice began at 6:45 in the morning in the new location of the courtyard. All F.H.S. band members had the chance to play as part of the Parade of Bands at Michigan State University this year also.
