FORWARD The theme for the 1960 TALON is the three seasons composing the school year, autumn, winter, and spring. Time means different things to different people. To some, these three seasons were the dreadfully long seasons which so begrudgingly transformed the scared, lowly creature known as Freshman into the polished dignified product known as Sophomore. To others, this same period of time is the all too quick moment which yanks the proud, noble, accomplished Senior from the life that has been so much a part of him for four years and sets him down in the new, confusing, and sometimes terrifying world called Afterwards Looking back, we see that time is not the important thing. Time is only a tool. Like any tool, if used properly, it can help produce wonderful things. I-low did we here at Ferndale High School spend our time? This is the important ques- tion. We are not concerned with calendar dates, but we are concerned with showing a glimpse of high school life as a whole. We will use time as a foundation with which we can build an image of the year we spent. It canit be a complete picture of high school life, for every- thing in the world is a part of high school. It will show pep assemblies, basketball games, homework, and dances, but not everything. We don't completely understand this teen-age life we portray. No teen-ager can. We are too much a part of it. Adults don't understand it because they are too far removed from it. We hope that this book will mean something to you that is different than what it means to everybody else. Every individual has his own impression of high school. If the impressions received from this book were identical, it would mean that the staff put too much of them- selves and not enough of their school into the book. Our purpose is, therefore, to present a book which will enable its readers to look back years from now and think, Q'Yes, this is the Ferndale High that I remember. L 7 3
