NEW HCJRIZONS Wlhat is the purpose of a high school? In America, we feel its purpose is to provide each of its students with the knowledge and experi- ence he will need after graduation. Mfhether he enters college, the armed forces, or business, his accomplishments will depend largely on how successfully his high school has imparted this knowledge. The quality and quantity of instruc- tion a high school and its teachers can offer are either limited or expanded by the facilities of the School. Through its extensive facilities Ferndale High School has brought to its teachers and students alike new horizons in education. For the first time, many departments have the re- sources they need for effective teaching. Swim- ming pools, aquariums, and language labs all help make a better and more well-rounded school. These new horizons in education are open to all. The move to Ferndale High School signi- fies the beginning of a new era - one which we hope will reflect favorably on the name of Ferndale High School. Whether it will or not is dependent on students, and on whether or not students take advantage of the many new op- portunities being offered to them. It is the job of the Alpha to record this new era as it meets happiness and sorrow, vic- tory and defeat, pride and humility. The staff members of the Alpha hope that in their record of the happenings of this first eventful year in Ferndale High School some of these emotions may be preserved forever. skkwtgx WE ENTER A JR
